Shirley Jones sings "Ain't Love Easy"
kevinolzak5 March 2014
"A Likely Candidate" introduces Bert Convy as Shirley's latest love interest, Richard Lawrence, whose Congressional campaign involves Keith. Once he sees his mother attracted to Lawrence, Keith winds up jealous and on the pretense of dating Lawrence's pretty daughter (Anne Carol Pearson) keeps a 'protective eye' on them. Previously seen in "Whatever Happened to Moby Dick?" Bert Convy would return as Lawrence in "The Eleven-Year Itch," featuring 10 year old Jodie Foster as his daughter Julie, who develops a crush on Danny. Heard only briefly is "One Day at a Time," composed by Terry Cashman and T. P. West, from the forthcoming LP CROSSWORD PUZZLE (later heard in "Aspirin at 7, Dinner at 8"). The real bonus is Shirley Jones' third and final lead vocal on the series, "Ain't Love Easy," composed by Bones Howe and Carol Hall, an actual Jones solo single release from 1972 (it failed to chart).
