Episode 4 "Dirty Politics"
kevinolzak22 May 2010
This fourth episode picks up the primary election between Bill, the incumbent, and young Joe Bowman (Craig Bierko), the wheelchair-bound newcomer challenging him. Back in the office, the Senator is conducting a brief tour for Evelyn (Mary Jo Catlett), one his constituents, who unexpectedly gets brushed aside by Bradley ("shoo, I mean it! If I told you once I told you a thousand times, you can come to the office Mother but don't linger!"). With Bowman gaining momentum (Margaret: "honestly Bill, we've lost all the good we'd gained when you were shot!"), Margaret, Jordan, and Bradley promise the Senator that they will conduct an honest campaign, before creating a phony video of Bowman standing up without the aid of his chair. Once the truth is revealed, Margaret avoids responsibility, leaving Jordan and Bradley to accept the blame. The Senator just can't bring himself to terminate them, especially since his secret affair with Jordan would also come to an end. He later meets with Bowman and promises to put an end to 'dirty politics,' and his opponent is agreeable; he even rises from his wheelchair to offer his hand on it! To be continued... This was the last show from this brief first season to feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Pierce.
