Again the trail runs without Mr. Favor
stellaarwennicolina11 October 2018
I don't dislike this episode, but I have to say I can't understand, why Eric Fleming aint in it. It woulda been a much better story, if somewhen Mr. Favor comes along and gives the other part of saving Rowdy. He'd try to do it with talking and something, but it'd fail... Like it is now, we only can see one part of the crew. The 'the most important thing is the early rescue of Rowdy' the part 'not against the law, I'll drive some more herds through this county' isn't a part of the story. Though it's a good episode. I especially liked the dialogue on the end of the episode, where Pete asks Rowdy for his money... It's very funny. I especially enjoy Clint Eastwood in this episode. As the simple-hearted, always-falling-in-love, ramrod Rowdy Yates.;-) Watch and enjoy Rawhide. It's worth to watch it. And try to convey your children, that black-and-white-western-series can be much better than the series, running in TV today, (especially Spongebob);-)

Jackpot for Rowdy
bkoganbing6 July 2019
This episode has Stephen Joyce the spoiled privileged son of bank president Charles Watts and Lurene Tuttle robbing his father's bank all in the name of a practical joke with his friend Kenneth Mayer. But Mayer ain't joking and a night watchman is killed.

But Mayer's horse goes lame and he decides to help himself to one of the chuck wagon horses and clubs Clint Eastwood for good measure. And helps himself to the cashbox for the trail drive.

When Eastwood goes in pursuit eventually he winds up in a nasty jackpot as the town thinks he did the deed.

In the end it's Sheb Woolley who pulls him out, won't say how.

This one has an incoherent script. A lot of the action just doesn't make sense. But Rawhide and Eastwood fans will approve.

SHOULD THIS HAVE BEEN A COMEDIC EPISODE
micksteel8614 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have just watched this episode again today ( July 2022) and it infuriates me because just about everything about this episode is wrong. So maybe if it was cast and directed as a comedy it may have been right.

A small town bank and greedy banker is giving away a $50,000 prize in the town's annual fair. The son of the banker decides to rob the bank of that money as a practical joke on his father and in doing so he selects a well known thief to help him.

Can you see the problems here?

A small town bank with $50,000 being advertised as a prize in the 1860's. That's millions for starters. Every bank robber in the west would be targeting that town.

Secondly, greedy bankers don't give money away.

Thirdly, if you are going to do that story which is a comedy plot not a drama plot you don't enlist a thief to help you.

Rather than go on all I can say that is every action by every character doesn't make sense, including but not especially the relationship with Rowdy and gorgeous bar girl Kathy Browne.

As a comedy with two comic actors as the robbers it may have worked.

Rawhide is always watchable, even a stinker like this.
