Cave-in
bkoganbing9 September 2017
Clint Eastwood has picked up a pair of new trail hands who aren't pulling their weight in Bruce Dern and Claude Akins who really aren't much use. Then Raymond St.Jacques and Steve Raines get caught in a mine cave-in and it turns out that Dern at least has some experience with blasting gel.

Delicate stuff that gel and Dern is holding up Eastwood for an additional $500.00 to blast Raines and St.Jacques from the cave-in. Eastwood has no choice.

Dern and Akins are a strange pair. Imagine the characters of George and Lennie from Of Mice And Men with George having a malevolent twist of mind.

Eastwood and Dern later worked together on Clint's film Hang 'em High. The dynamics here are similar to what they were on that big screen film.

That makes this Rawhide episode worth a look.

Pretty cheesey

The story itself wasn't bad. Nor the acting. Akins and Dern were both fine actors in their prime at the time this was made. But the operating budget of these episodes in the 8th season was cut all the way to the bone. It's a shame what the studio cheapskates did to this fine show after season 7.

That guy in the bear suit that attacked Quince in the mineshaft literally had me laughing out loud. That was awful!
