Helen calls over Stanley's old Army buddy Joey (Richard B. Shull) to haul off their old furniture. Stanley refuses to get rid of it, however. Helen's brother-in-law Hubert Armbrewster brings a belated housewarming gift from her snooty sister Ethel. Stanley tries to upstage them by saying he is getting Helen new furniture. Hubert realizes he will also have to get new furniture to satisfy Ethel. Joey arranges to also haul off their furniture for a cut of their sale. He phones Stanley to buy new furniture from him- the Armbrewsters. Helen is irate when she recognizes it as Ethel's. When Ethel comes over, Helen tries to keep her away from their apartment. Things take an unexpected turn.
