Lively Aussie outing
Leofwine_draca27 February 2023
The change of setting works well in this fight-fuelled little episode of the show. THE LOVING BROTHERS is set in Australia and focuses on a mine run by a friendly old timer whom Templar immediately builds a rapport with. Unfortunately for him, he has two offspring, a pair of quarrelsome brothers who decide to teach Templar a lesson and are in the meantime trying to get their hands on control of the mine. One of these brothers is played by the larger-than-life Ray Barrett, of Hammer's THE REPTILE fame, and he certainly brings a lot of hulking energy to the part. Plenty of fights and back and forth keep this one engaging.

The Loving Brothers

Simon Templar is in the Australian outback. He comes across crusty Pop Kinsall who is prospecting in a silver mine and thinks he has found silver ore.

He just needs additional investment from one of his two sons back in Sydney. Willie Kinsall (Ray Barrett) and Wally Kinsall (Ed Devereaux) are two greedy quarrelling brothers. They have no time for their old Pop back in the outback.

Templar makes a small investment and all indications are that there is valuable ore in the mine. It is not long before the brothers turn up once they hear that Pop might be sitting in a fortune.

Pop is not greedy, he wants investment in the small community he resides in. First and foremost he plans to build a hospital.

After a mining mishap Pop dies and Templar gets an Assayers report that there is no valuable silver in the mine.

The Saint plans to make the brothers pay for a new hospital. A last minute will by Pop is the key.

Strong performances from Barrett and Devereaux. Templar gets involved in several brawls. It is a very basic story with a lot of 1960s Australian stereotypes. The Saint playing the con was good.
