"The Governess" is an episode of "Schlitz Playhouse", an anthology series from the 1950s. And, while you might not have heard of Schlitz beer, it was HUGE during this era...even bigger than Budweiser!
Let's cut to the chase, the episode is very depressing. It seems that growing up, a family had a governess and years later, an adult wonders how the woman is doing, as they lost touch with her. Unfortunately, the declining years of this governess are depressing...she's been forgotten and is a bit bitter. But when death strikes this family, the governess snaps back into action and makes herself useful.
Death....neglect....not exactly things that make for an upbeat program. The acting and production values are good for TV from the era, but the story is such a downer I can't see folks running to see it! So depressing, in fact, it might just encourage you to drink a LOT of Schlitz!
