Silk Stalkings:Pilot
Scarecrow-8827 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This USA channel series was really a guilty pleasure for me back when I was a hormonal teenager noticing with great enthusiasm the fine details of beautiful women and how SILK STALKINGS was a bit different from other crime shows. It was full of color and corny dialogue, not necessarily edgy as it was wonderfully sordid, projecting the dark side of the society of wealth and affluence. Anytime such words as "dipstick" and "gomer" make it into conversations, I'm caught hook, line, and sinker. Mitzi Kapture has the knock out figure I drool over, her outfits perfectly capturing that lovely form I so admire. Rob Estes, the hunk in purple/pink shirts and khaki pants, the pearly whites and chiseled features that has the babes swooning. The Palm isn't exactly grizzled NYC so the atmosphere for SILK STALKINGS is more attractive, art deco and posh, less gritty or hardboiled, heavy emphasis on flash and flesh. Kapture's Sgt. Rita Lee Lance carries an aneurysm which could burst at any time(this is her sole dilemma)while Estes' Chris Lorenzo's major problem is leaving his ex-girlfriend's his high-priced vehicles(such as a Jag he gives away; lucky girls). Lance is always at odds with nerdy, by-the-book District Attorney Susan Harner(Susanna Thompson;one of those very attractive women disguised as a drab lawyer, with plenty of demands for protocol). Ben Vereen is Captain Ben Hutchinson, lamenting his office's style(millions went to building his office, and the entire building for that matter, in a certain architectural way adhering to the personalities of art deco stylists), preferring for the budget to be spent on the necessities instead, such as equipment or uniformed officers. The pilot's storyline concerns the murder of a golfer's model wife and how it could relate to a judge's sadist/rapist grandson. Ann Turkel is Roxanne Dockweiler, a member of the "in crowd" who provide "access" into her world to the detectives. Instead of crowded streets of diverse people, SILK STALKINGS features beaches of well manicured/sculpted bodies. You trade strong human stories with moral conflicts for hot blond babes often found dead inside lavish mansions, the cases often tied to very powerful, well-to-do people.
