An old friend of Starsky and Hutch's shows up with a sad story of trying to reunite with his estranged wife and son. Starsky and Hutch do all they can to help their friend locate his family. When it seems the ex-wife has remarried someone in criminal circles who doesn't want her found, Starsky and Hutch work harder to help their friend at least get a chance to see his son. And then suddenly the tables are turned and everything they have been led to believe is all smoke and mirrors. They have been duped, and have to fix things before it's too late.
This is a good story with a complex twist. Even as it becomes evident to the viewer that things are not what they seem, the whole scheme unfolds slowly and still keeps you guessing. I can't point out any especially exceptional scenes or dialog, but it is just a nice, solid episode with a good story and a good Starsky and Hutch vibe. That's really all I ask and what Season 1 usually delivers. This is why the show got popular in the first place.
