Offensive Red Scare tale
searchanddestroy-110 June 2016
You watch here an authentic anti red story, about a Presbyterian missionary and teacher in China who is arrested and charged as a spy. Vincent Price is quite good in this character, but let's be fair, he has never been used to play such roles. The producers could have chosen some one else than him. But, I repeat, he is very convincing in this character. Yes, this is a brutal and I would say vicious description of what the communist repressive authorities could inflict to supposed spies or United States agents. You can think of MANCHOURIAN CANDIDATE or stuff like that. You could say it's a cliché, and you would not be wrong. But I guess that was the reality... It is told as a sort of expose, with an off voice. Steven Geray is awesome as the Red politic commissary character, a role which fit him in an absolute outstanding way. I guess this tale was inspired by the true John Hayes character. Philip Ahn is also exquisite as the court president.

Yes, a powerful anti red product from the fifties that deserves to be seen.

Directed by Harry - RED PLANET MARS (another anti-red piece of work) - Horner.
