I consider this to be highly ironic-a sitcom episode about how life's not a sitcom. In this episode, Willie, the troublemaker kid of the family, gets a tough lesson between real life and television. After watching a TV show episode and seeing its "standard ending," he causes a hit-and-run car accident and expects the same thing. Real life has some nasty results when he finally comes clean.
To quote the mother when he finally admits that he knows that television's not real, "Then don't you ever pull something this serious and then expect to get off with a little speech and a hug. That's not how things work in the real world. That's television. That's entertainment. There's no way we're going to fix this in half an hour, believe you me." We could all learn something from that. I rank this as one of my all time favorite TV show episodes. We could all learn something from it!
