I loved the ending of what is probably my favourite TV series of all time. However I think many factors were overlooked in this episode that made me feel as though the writers got sloppy when making the finale.
Some of the major things that bugged me were the inconsistencies surrounding the hollow - we charmed lovers all know the hollow was once before released, back in series 4 by the Source. It is also written that the hollow must be "captured" by both someone of good and evil, hence why in series 4, Phoebe and the Seer had to read the inscription on the box of the Hollow to "re-capture" it. Also the inscription that was read by Phoebe and the Seer, and the one read by Piper, Patty & Penny differed.
I was disappointed that they didn't allow Shannon Doherty one final appearance also, I know she left the show on bad terms and she and Alyssa never really got along, but I thought that for the finale they could have set aside their differences for the fans. It also annoys me that in the ending of the episode when the elderly Piper & Leo are walking up the stairs there is also no picture of her (And the picture of the older Chris & Wyatt is in particularly good taste considering why would that be the only picture of their grown up children in the house?).
HOWEVER, with the bad - there is of course the good, I enjoyed the final episode and how they brought the family back together, Victor, Patty, Penny, the older Chris & Wyatt as well. I loved how the show gave closure to all three of the sisters as well, not many shows give that closure or give that kind of a "tell-all future" ending, usually most writers leave it up to the fans to decide what happens next, I liked that we got to see what happened next definitely gave the fans the closure that was needed after 8 years.
One final moan is that I think in trying to have so many guest stars, I think the story-line in the final episode was a bit jumpy and I think the final Billie and Christie scene was rushed, I was expecting much more from that, and it was over in a heartbeat - after all it was supposed to be the "Ultimate Battle", no?
BUT, as a final episode it does what few writers manage to do in a finale after so many years on the air, and that is make the fans feel nostalgic and wishing it would never end.. So bravo!
P.S - Of final note... I also think that throughout the whole of series 8, the Triad's role was "irrelevant" and I was annoyed when the sisters said "We've already vanquished them" - if I remember correctly, in series 3 it was Cole who killed the triad, quite distinctively - He threw an Athame into one, broke ones neck and threw an energy ball into another.. They were quite dead last I checked, and they were never of as much significance as we are given rise to believe throughout the series, they were simply upper-level demons who served the source and whom members of the brotherhood reported too...
