Ridiculous, nonsensical 'time-travel' adventure
jamesrupert201425 April 2022
Flash, Dale and Zarkov go back in time to 1954 to find a 'slow fission' bomb that is destined to blow up the Earth in 1250 years. The show's poverty-level budget is evident from the 'phone' in the police car that is made out of wood, the animated spaceship effects, and Zarkov's bedizened 'time machine' (which looks like a small rococo jewel box). When they arrive in the past, the team has less than 20 minutes to locate and defuse the bomb yet find time to look around and comment on primitive airplanes and ships before racing off to track down telltale traces of radiation (on an ohm meter no less). The time-travel plot makes no sense: while the bomb will detonate in under an hour when they leave their present, it won't detonate for 12 centuries when they arrive in the past, so there is no need for their panicky rush to find the infernal devise. As well, back in 3203, the villain reveals that you can't detect any radiation from the weapon, so there is no point in searching (whereas Dale can detect radiation from a bomb hidden in Berlin when the team is flying over New York). The only thing interesting in this silly, illogical adventure is the footage of post-WW2 Berlin as Flash and crew are pursued by German police while searching for the bomb (which is hidden under a rock where the villain assumes that it will remain unfound for more than a millennium). Really, really dumb.
