You Can Run But You Can't Hide, PIZZA MAN!
JasonDanielBaker23 March 2014
Midsouth precinct police Detective Kevin O'Brien (Scott Hylands) and his partner Detective Frank Giambone (Jeff Wincott) investigate after a cocaine courier posing as a pizza delivery boy gets murdered in an alleyway. Undercover narcotics cop Dave Jefferson (Clark Johnson) also happens upon the scene indicating a separate investigation.

Another dealer/pizza delivery boy gets shot at possibly by the same mysterious hooded trigger-man. Again the motive remains unclear unless you go by the title of the episode. The mob-run pizza joint's manager Jerry (David Ferry) would prefer to solve the problem independently with a reliable family contractor. He has a lot to hide thus he tells the police nothing.

Meanwhile Colby (Eugene Clark) reunites with a former colleague (Ardon Bess) who is taking care of a sick wife and mourning the loss of a teen son. At one time a top notch investigator the man burned out and faded away. As a personal friend Colby looks to put his life back on track if he can.

This particularly miscast offering is far from one of my favourites and is an example of the show being a notch below the standard 'police procedural' instead of being a cut above which it usually was. It could just as easily been a throwaway episode of Kojak 15 years earlier but with lesser production value.

The Dave Jefferson narcotics cop character portrayed by solid actor Clark Johnson never fully seemed to fit with the show and his presence tended to come off as insipid, somewhat superfluous and tacked on. It partly helped the show overall to have as many different cop characters as was feasible in realistically presenting this large metropolitan force. But he took the narrative nowhere that it wasn't already going.

Directed by Jorge Montesi who also guest-starred on 6 episodes and directed 15 other episodes.
