Funny and Entertaining!

This title is pretty much standard fare as far as Last of the Summer Wine episodes go - but that is not a bad thing!

Their are plenty of laughs to be had and Roy Clarke's sense of comic irony definitely creeps in around the edges, providing enough frivolity and mirth to lift your mood - without requiring you to think too much.

The narrative lacks complexity but is detailed enough to keep you entertained.

As a must watch for Last Wine fanatics and a decent enough taster for casual viewers this episode gets a 7/10.

7* - Great

Deviations with Davenport

Jack Smethurst plays Davenport. A would be guide writer of the Yorkshire Dales. Someone far removed from Alfred Wainwright as you can get.

Unfortunately he is caught by surprise with his encounters with three strange men. Later Foggy claims he knows these hills like the back of his hand.

They wander around lost. Although it makes you think. How did Compo, Clegg and Foggy get there in the first place.

Wesley builds an ungainly contraption to add to his car, very much like a fairground ride to ferry passengers. Much cheaper than hiring a minibus.

You wonder where were the two policemen?

Smethurst was good fun as the guest star, hopefully lost with our trio. He never thought writing a guide book could be this painful.

There is a side plot with Barry getting a new car and making sure his father in law never claps eyes on it.
