Give us a smiler

Smiler has had enough. In his retirement he wants to eat breakfast at his leisure, read the papers but he is lodging with Nora Batty and she does not want him around.

Even drinking a cup of tea slowly at the cafe means Ivy does not want him around. It is the library for him.

When he offers £50 for anyone who can spring him from Nora Batty, Foggy rises up to the challenge. He reckons if he tries to romance Nora that would be enough to have him thrown out of the house. Compo is less than amused.

Smiler was a great creation by Roy Clarke and it is nice to see him centre stage here which makes you ignore some of the formulaic settings that Clarke seems to stick rigidly to.
