It comes as no surprise that this sits at the top in terms of episode ratings, and it is one of the best. Each of the main characters is put to great use, each has hopes, and each sees them all dashed.
Sarah, who's obviously used to having her daughter at home, discovers that Clare has moved away, or that it's now at least a possible reality. Clare has her career prospects dashed by a letch, and Eleanor's hopes of mixing with the Gentry are also dashed.
It's very funny on all quarters, Clare finally gets a chance to be funny, despite having a lecherous, chauvinistic pig for a boss, she deals with him very well. The out and out joy comes from Eleanor being put down by Lady Newby, who deems her taste as common, and is convinced she's in the property rental business. Sheila Keith was great fun.
Very funny. 9/10
