Punic Wars.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is part of a fine series from The History Channel. The Carthaginians established their empire along the northern shore of Africa, pretty much from scratch. Contemporaneous Rome saw it as a rival and there followed three Punic Wars. Carthage came in second, alas, and was demolished.

The episode deals mainly with the historical background of Carthage because, I suppose, there weren't many technological breakthroughs to highlight. I mean -- they built big walls.

Still, it's an interesting if minor entry in the series. Who really knows much about Carthage, after all? Many of us have heard of the Punic Wars, though I doubt most of those could name the combatants. Americans probably remember George C. Scott, as General Patton, kneeling at the ruins of Carthage and praising the bravery of their warriors, and that's just about it.
