A classic from my childhood
TheLittleSongbird21 April 2011
As a kid, I loved this show as did my brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents. It was so funny, sweet and likable, and not only did we quote some of the lines, especially Ernest's "a pair of boots, a toffee tin... and a ball of silver paper"(loved the delivery of the final part of the line) in the Captain Brass episode but we also hummed the theme tune wherever we went.

Revisiting "Stories from Toytown Featuring Larry the Lamb" at 18, all those wonderful memories came flooding back. This is a wonderful, woefully overlooked show that for me still holds up today. The production values look great still, the sets and backgrounds are skilled and colourful, almost exactly like a real miniature toy town, and all the characters are well-modelled and look convincing.

"Stories from Toytown Featuring Larry the Lamb" also has a great theme tune. As a kid, this theme tune was one of favourites to a kids/family show, and many years later it is still one that stands as one of the most memorable theme tunes of my childhood. That's not to say the scoring for each episode shouldn't be overlooked too, the incidental music is every bit as charming and infectious.

It's not just the characters that makes me remember this show so fondly, but I must say these are great characters, not just Larry who manages to be funny and cute, but also Dennis, Mayor and especially Ernest the Policeman. There is also the simple but truly charming story lines but also the amusing dialogue, I can't help laughing out loud at some of the beginning of the episode(but in a good way) where Larry and Dennis go "looking for fairies" and Ernest catches them in the act.

The solid voice work also helps. Patsy Blower does a wonderful job as Larry but I have to say Ernest has some truly hilarious line delivery especially. All in all, yet another classic from my childhood, one of those shows that is once a classic, always a classic. 10/10 Bethany Cox
