Surprising the Captain
JordanThomasHall24 October 2017
Jonathan (Harlen Carraher) is having a birthday party with a large number of children, interfering with the Captain's (Edward Mulhare) desire for peace and quiet. He must concentrate- as he is making a ship in a bottle as a present for Jonathan. The birthday boy and Candace (Kellie Flanagan) ask the Captain when his birthday is, but he can't remember. They want to give him a birthday party, so they try to find the date by visiting Claymore (Charles Nelson Reilly) under the pretense of a school interview. He goes through his files to discover the Captain's birthdate as November 13, 1869 (or is it?). They ask Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) to have a surprise party for him, and use Scruffy as a lookout, as he can always tell when the Captain is around. They try and think of something to give the Captain which leads to Mrs. Muir pondering, "what do you give a man who has nothing and can't use anything?"
