True Talent

Warning: Spoilers
Warning don't read unless seen episode.

This is part two of the Talent Search arc and it's a good follow up. What I like about this is the theme is about the part the make good talent and that's having good character as well, and parts of that are strong self-esteem and integrity and we see Reya, Craig, and Shanna are put to the test.

We of course left of with Reya with Eric's Devil's deal, but (if predictably) she says no. It's true that what Eric offered seemed like a good pretty package but the price for it was too high to pay, even if Eric made good on the offer Reya wouldn't be able to live with herself knowing she betrayed the trust of people she looked up to whom are "Jem and the Holograms" but even betraying her family mainly her dad and everything they taught her. I really like that it just shows that there really are somethings more valuable than glamour and money.

Same can be said for the two other sub plot lines; Craig of course we discover is Stormer's brother which is no surprise considering the fact both have blue hair. We also discover that Stormer's first name is Mary, this little fact along with Craig brings a little light of depth to her, showing she did have a life before the Misfits. Unfortunately, we see that Mary/Stormer becomes a target of pear pressure when they threaten her to use her brother to get him to find out Jem's identity otherwise, she's out of the band. Craig reluctantly agrees to this due to a promise he made Mary/Stormer a long time ago.

There is a good movement with Aja and craig as we see them in the park together on a run, funny what Aja says how their run was only 5 miles, man both must be Marathon runners. Craig at fist tries to get Aja to open about Jem's identity. But of course, Aja doesn't spill the beans and Craig then refrains from asking again and there is a sweet moment between both of them afterward.

This shows the strength of Craig's integrity, it's true he did make a promise to help his sister but not in that way, not just because it meant compromising his integrity but also it would mean compromising his sacred feelings and trust with Aja. And he does help Mary/Stormer out in the end along with Reya.

And of course, we have the plotline with Shanna, unfortunately we see what seems like a dream job has turned into a nightmare. Every effort Shanna put for the actress's new fashion line gets canceled with the overly rude comments to boot, all because each of the outfits Shanna designed make the models look great and overshadow the actresses herself. Yeah, narcissistic much that actress boss is practically a living definition of it.

From this Shanna knows this is not the right path toward her dream as she's a fashion designer not a ego designer, but also she knows whom she should be loyal to and that's Jem, the Holograms but most importantly herself. Shanna does the right thing and quits which I'll admit put a smile on my face but also shows that Shanna is her own boss.

Shanna does come back to the Holograms which is cool as it wouldn't be the same without her. Reya of course her dream comes true, though it's not going to be that easy, but Reya's life never was to begin with and living out your dreams isn't that different. Even Craig's dream came true which is having Aja in his life, and both have a bond that can never be broken.

Dreams and talent are worth defending, anyone that tries to tear them down is talentless.

Rating: 4 stars.
