Libby writes a play called "I'm Taking My Own Head And Screwin It On Right And No Guy's Gonna Tell Me That It Ain't" for another excellent 90 minute episode.
First up is Eugene Levy as Ricardo Montalban heading an acting school. All the students end up with his accent. Then Sunrise Semester has Rick Moranis trying to give ventriloquist lessons.
Next is a hilarious sequel to the High Q sketch. This time it is older people taking night classes who are the contestants. Levy returns as host Alex Trebel and Catherine O'Hara reprises her Margaret Meehan role as the contestant who keeps buzzing in before the question is read. John Candy is a guy who leans on the buzzer without noticing it, Joe Flaherty as talkative guy who won't get to the point, Dave Thomas as a grandpa with a hearing problem and Moranis as a fix it guy. Andrea Martin is supposed to translate her Dutch husband's answers but has stage fright.
The Mckenzie brothers have a funny topic about a mouse in a beer bottle. Then we get to the main story as Libby on You! talks about her new play written with friend Sue Bopper-Simpson (supposed to be the Big Bopper's daughter) played by O'Hara. Gerry Todd has a funny commercial about a TV dinner which also contains a video cassette of a movie.
Libby then speaks with the leading man in her play (Flaherty) a stereotypical 1980s Method actor type, dressed in work out clothes and a head band, constantly asking "Who Am I? What's my background?" Bill Needle shows up complaining he now has to review live theater. Libby then argues with her boyfriend Lennie (Moranis).
Then we see a Canadian movie of the week called Power Play. A naive young guy named Billy (Candy) is picked to be a hockey player. The coach is played by William Shatner (great impression by Dave Thomas). O'Hara plays a hippie girl who tries to influence Billy. The songs on the soundtrack sound like Levy trying to imitate Gordon Lightfoot type songs. A beer commercial follows about Cow Malt Beer with Flaherty doing a spot on impression of John Huston.
Bill Needle reviews Libby's play (he hates it) and shows some clips. It has some very funny spoofs of Sondheim type lyrics and experimental theater.
O'Hara then plays Dusty Towne, a brassy comedienne who tells awful double entendre jokes ( seems to be a spoof of Rusty Warren). Dave plays Michael Caine in the movie My Bloody Hand, a parody of the recent Caine film The Hand.
The Fishin' Musician has Gil welcoming shock rockers Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics. They go on a hunting trip but get scared by a gorilla. The Plasmatics do a nihilistic rock number called "Doom Song" and Wendy destroys the set with a sledge hammer while Gil sips coffee and grooves to the music. After the song is over his black dog Tag has turned white!
This is one of the funniest and wildest episodes of the series, a must see.
