Director Fred De Cordova did a great job, especially for season 10, bringing Steve and Barbara closer. Also you have two excellent actors to make it realistic. By this time in the series long run, it was a distinct combo of comedy, drama and soap opera. We all loved it, and still do. And the family kept on growing, perhaps an inspiration to the WALTONS in a few years. Think about it.
This episode introduces cute Dawn Lynn, sister of singer Leif Garrett, playing Barbara's only daughter, Dodie. Best scenes find Fred MacMurray and Beverly Garland at Mama Rossini's restaurant. Mama is played by popular character actress Naomi Stevens, who was everywhere on tv, and in some classic tv shows at Warner Brothers/ABC tv. She is spot on for this role.
The other story here concerns Robbie, who doesn't want to be caught up in a favoritism angle, being hired on at Steve's plant. Ordinarily, this would have been a much bigger story. That said, Steve and Barbara take front and center, and you know wedding bells are just around the corner. That's the fun of it all. Character actress Eleanor Audley guest stars as Mrs. Vincent, always fun to watch.
