I've watched all nine episodes and found the series definitely an enjoyable ride for those who are interested in dystopian scifi. The show poses deep questions about humanity and the importance of society, without being overly preachy or too much navel-gazing.
First off, the characters are well-acted and engaging. I really felt for all of them and thought the acting was very good. I appreciated that a nine-part series didn't have too many characters and I was able to keep track of the plot and subplots. The sets are gorgeous and New London has a fresh, modern vibe. A lot of the scenes are shot with very low light, which I found quite annoying. I'm not sure if this is done to enhance the dark mood, or perhaps to hide the cardboard that held the elaborate sets together. The music is great and really sets the mood for certain scenes. The pacing can be a bit lethargic at times and some details are skipped over, but I looked forward to every episode, although I got the feeling they could have added more dialogue or cut the series to four episodes.
A lot has been made of the sexiness of the show, but that was part of Huxley's storyline as well - a world where everybody belongs to everybody, and sex is mere recreation and certainly not a private activity. I'll say that there are some really beautiful lines in the show and it does a great job of showing that imperfect humans really complicate the efforts to create a perfect society.
This isn't a retelling of BNW, it is an updated BNW 2.0 - what Huxley might have written in 2020 if he were alive today.
