When the girls find out Ann is going to be alone on Xmas, they cancel their plans and all three decide to spend the holiday up at Schneider's cabin.
Not a series' best, it is a decent holiday offering. ONE DAY AT A TIME produced two Xmas episodes during its' 9-year run and they are both equal in quality, though the Season 9 entry may seem a little odd to casual viewers because of all the new characters who were added in the later seasons.
Mackenzie Phillips would be fired next season due to drug problems, and you already see here that she is starting to look thin and unwell. Schneider helps the girls set up their new fancy telephone answering machine. They sing a cute Xmas song for their outgoing message. Then they gift Schneider with a shiny bathrobe that has "Super Super" emblazoned on the back.
When they first see the run-down cabin, Ann lets out one of her patented "Ohhh, myyyy God"'s. They browse through Schneider's records and find an album called "Music to Get Lucky By". The girls are impressed by the big waterbed - but quickly discover it's frozen solid!
The entire second act finds Ann and the girls huddled in bed to keep warm and they chat about life, love, marriage and sex - hence the episode title. The biggest laugh comes when Barbara innocently asks Ann, "Is it warmer in bed with a man?" and Julie immediately blurts out "Yeah".
Plays like a typical episode of the series. 7/10.
