This movie sucks
slambamzoomzing13 September 2022
I know its 2022 and we all expect a lil' wokeness as governed by the shadowy CEO from Blackrock and Vanguard, but the blatant rewriting of history to include sub-saharan immis is a fail. Do you wonder why the world hates your movies? Do you think you are doing justice to people by making up stories about a past King of England, who by the way, was a nasty piece of work. But I'm sure he wasn't as nasty as this movie, or its attempt to slip the public the misconception of Western history.

Beyond this, there are other bad elements, such as: -Bad character intro/development. What can I say about the non-introduction of characters? Its just not really there.

-Is the camera man infatuated with tree shots, or was he drunk? I don't understand why the director spent so much time filming the trees and bark. And near the end of each scene, the camera points up, giving the audience the view of the sky littered with branches obscuring the view, almost as obscure as the rest of this film.

-The plot is bad. Seriously, the non-king-yet Richard sneaks off to the woods to meet his horse trainer woman so they can get it on, but before that happens, the poor folk are there to assassinate him. Add the ugly man who rapes women, and the woman that cuts off his gnards. How liberating it must be, to emasculate all the men... how pathetic.

The acting is poor, but what does one expect when the director is bad at his/hers/theirs/whatever job? I mean, I could see the actors were trying, but I bet it was a hard job working with that director. So I suppose the actors probably put up with a lot of crap just to get paid; c'est la vie.

But is it? Is this what modern film making is now? Just the rewriting of history so that gobs of the population become woke?

We, the people, reject this attempt to rewrite history and also hate this movie.

Director is to blame for a lot of this, but the wokeness is disingenuous to say the least.

Amatuer hour or, larping in a forest with a camera.

Low budget, badly acted, poorly directed, laughable editing.

Feels like a 'made during lockdown' type movie, and that's not good.

I gave it 2 because getting a movie made on this level of budget gets a thumbs up and the basic storyline (made up drivel notwithstanding) is at least passable. Low budget, badly acted, poorly directed, laughable editing.

Terrible
sarahmcloud20 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Written and directed by the same guy that starred in this terrible film. His acting was herendous as was the directing. Storyline is bad and the lack of the grasp on history or reality shines through. Terrible acting even from the once famous cast that really need to retire including John Rhys Davies.

Typical low budget indie garbage that wouldn't out do a 80s home made film. Best parts were looking at the forestry as the camera work was amateur at best. Was out of focus in parts , the static camera angles were horrific. The film was that terrible and horrifically made it could have made a horror movie.

It's a B-movie, with B-movie actors, B-movie direction and story. Walk on by, nothing to see here...
imseeg19 September 2022
Terribly cheaply produced B-movie about knights, which is so bad that it becomes laughable.

In all sincerity this shouldnt be called a movie and I bet it was intended for television only and that shows, because everything about this "movie" is inferior, from the story, to the direction, to the actors.

Walk on by folks, dont expect a knight movie, this is a laughable cheap surrogate...

Only the title is kinda interesting and it was the title hat fooled me into thinking this could be of some interest, BUT ofcourse it wasnt.

Fool me once...

Not any good then? NO NO NO. But if you wanna have a laugh go ahead and watch it...

Ludicrously laughable

The appalling acting is this movie is only matched by the equally appalling editing along with a plot so full of holes you could sieve pasta through it. It's as if a bunch of amateurs got together in a wood behind their homes and had the idea of making a movie.

Supposedly set in late 12th century England 2 days before his coronation as King Richard decides to go deep into a forest to spend time with his lover. Without horses seemingly. Why? No explanation. Without guards too. Why? England was in turmoil and about the only fact the movie gets right is that Richard's hold on the throne is tenuous indeed. His major competitor is his brother John as anyone familiar with the Robin Hood movies will know.

The plot, such as it is, comprises Richard and his lover trying to make their way home through the forest fighting off attackers. Had they not inexplicably left their horses at home they would have had no problem. But then there would be no movie. Deus ex Machina in reverse.

The acting is dreadful and the editing worse. You can almost see the joins. As for the acript I don't think there was one - they just made it up as they go along.

I gave it 2 stars since I actually sat through it on a long flight. Otherwise please do not waste your time.

One not to watch

Jarring cinematography coupled with poor direction, acting and script makes for a tedious experience. The scene where the woman is accosted by the group of armed women and men was particularly bad. The acting from the bearded guy that gets interrogated by the main protagonist at knife point while laying on the ground was amateur and devoid of truth.

Parody of historical movie !
arvidmslusarczyk1 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When first time I saw this title , and description: "this is a story about Richard the Lionheart" I though , i need to see this movie !!!

What i got ? Walking Richard in the forest., almost whole movie. , wielding sword like it was bag of potatoes. Big medieval battles 5 vs 5 men. Those details which are irritating me - actors soaked with blood , but not even one cm dirt on body or clothes.

For people which like action or historical movies, this will be only waste of time. Basically I dont know who will say WOW after seeing this production

Low budget, badly acted even John Rhys-Davies didn't saved this movie, poorly directed. Screenplay with absurd, idiotic phrases.

It's actually a good movie
guido-1022 January 2023
Low budget yes, but bad acting? No. It's ok. Better than some big budget films. Not an implausible story. The plot isn't bad given the subjects discussed. The presence of Anslem and William Marshall doesn't need explaining. Others have critisised wokeness but for the life of me, I didn't see this. That not all characters are white doesn't make the film historically inaccurate. Race and ethnicity was much less of an issue in medieval times than it is now. It is enjoyable, uncomplicated, so easy to follow. At last a film from the medieval period that does not feature a dragon, wizards or Michael Caine.

Great music acting a bit ropey
ashnu200414 February 2023
The story was kinda good and I liked the idea of the storyline , the whole Film had a bit of an amateurish feel about it, but was an interesting watch. I didn't really feel the romance from the two leads and found the whole thing a bit muddled took me a while to get to grips with who was double crossing who! The main actor seemed a little out of his depth and his beard was a bit distracting but my favourite part of the whole experience was the music it actually made it for me and I've downloaded some of the composers music. So in short my review is 5 for the film but a 10 for the soundtrack shame it's not available to download.

Love,Romance and War
giustolr13 May 2023
I for one absolutely loved the film. Beautiful love story in the beautiful forest, yo the camera work was exceptional we've all seen better however the colorful scenery the costumes were exceptional. The girl was beautiful, who doesn't agree with that. Richard had the beauty we all long to fight for. He showed masculinity and did so humbly. Oh, cannot leave out the best and most important part. It's definitely a romantic love story Overall I there's nowhere near enough of this type of film available today I thread through many that are 10 times worse than this film. The Kingslayer is a masterpiece of its own kind.

Soulful and thoughtful
alexandercjones-734-2833519 November 2022
From the director of Wolf and The Necromancer, I was ready for another wild ride of bloodshed and grief in an isolated location, driven by a fantasy story. I certainly got that, and more. Each character distinct, colourful and purposeful. There comes a moment that is beautiful and cuts very deeply, returning later to cut some more, and it's so very effective and resonant. This isn't a huge budget epic of cgi armies battling, like the many countless number of other films in this kind of story, and I'm thankful- it's much more personal, thoughtful and soulful. I love the creativity.

Heavy lies the crown indeed.
