I normally don't review episodes but... damn. This episode hit me hard. Imagine being alone and trapped for 60 years trying to come up with ways to break free and return to the other side where you know your friends and family are still alive. He was alone for so long that he even thought his friends were there when he was just alone for so long he didn't know what to feel. And that whole scene with Avocato... damn. I feel so bad for Little Cato. This episode was so amazing, perfect balance between comedy and drama and I loved every second of it. Can't wait to see more.

Perfect

Well, after the disappointment of the first three episodes this one was huge and wery pleasant surprise. It's perfect episode, because it dives deep into Cato's character, explains his motivation and personality. It also has a perfect balance between comedy and drama which season 1 had, and it's very emotionally touching.

"What are you trying to prove?" "...Everything"

Warning: Spoilers
WOW just WOW. I made an account only to review this episode. God damn! this is one of the best episodes I've watched of... anything. Give it a whirl, I'll be waiting on the other side with spoilers :)

I spent most of this episode emotional, fighting back tears because I wanted to finish it, but in the last scenes I couldn't hold it back. Maybe I'm just in the perfect spot for this episode to hit me in the feels or, this is something truly special :D

So the episode revolves around my favourite character Lil Cato. We begin with a fun scene of the gang dancing to Footloose then the time storm hits and in Lil Cato's arrogance they crash, stranding the ship with half of it stuck in accelerated time. We harsh cut 60 years and see the hopeless future crew, Gary, Fox and Ash were on the other half of the ship and are stuck in the past. Ava has hooked up with Hue, KVN is going nuts, Nightfall is blind, Mooncake has a sexy voice, and Clarence is Clarence. Lil Cato is talking to his father's voice box for comfort. But he has a plan to send out a distress call, only Nightfall agrees with the plan and they enact it without permission. It works, but accidentally summons a titan. Cato, Nightfall and Mooncake go to fight it by themselves, and they win but Cato is mortally wounded. He's dragged back onto the ship and bleeds out as the crew embrace him. But then they fade away. They were hallucinations. The real crew from 60 years ago break through the crystal, releasing a wave that reverses Cato's age, but not the traumatic memories.

There are some amazing parts of this episode. I love the older crew, Tribore is funny with his sash, so is Clarence and his martini's. Cato using his father's voicebox is impactful, we see how he blames himself for what happened, he uses it to build himself up, then wallows in sadness when the crew don't go along with his plan, "You're such a disappointment" that hits hard coming from Ol' Cato's voice. Nightfall is so sweet when she comforts him "I know your father wouldn't have said any of those things in a million years."

I remember thinking the Titan fight was too easy but it makes sense later. The scene where Cato is dying is terrific "I spent 60 years trying to save us and... nothing. I couldn't save my friends, I couldn't even save myself" again tears everywhere, very messy. That's what hits me most about this episode, Cato tried to save his friends for years and he never gives up, but in the end, it doesn't matter. While the rescue ship comes in Cato tells himself a final lie of comfort as the crew hug him. "I would've gone crazy..." they fade away, brilliant. The signs were there too, Cato talks about being insane, he talks to himself, everyone else is ineffectual, while Ava is present in both timelines.

On the downside I wish we didn't see into the past until the crystal gets broken through, I think that would've been more effective. The time reverse is too easy, but at least Cato still has the memories and the craziness, I hope this isn't forgotten about. I also wish the episode was double the length to let the emotions sink in but you always want more of a good thing.

My favourite part of the episode: Hue see Cato going on a suicide mission to fight the tighten and tries to talk him down; asking what he's trying to prove, we flashback to when Cato's father was killed. It's marvellous, clearly Cato's guilt runs deep as he blames himself for not only getting the crew trapped but his fathers death and being powerless to save him. "...Everything" Chills man, all over.

A perfect story for the show. Being stuck alone in one side and everyone on the other. Trynig to get back to your friends for 60 years you almost forgot you are all alone. A twist that made my eyes wide open... 10/10!

WOW!

I very rarely write reviews here, but this episode deserves it. I watched it a year ago and it I still remember how impressive it was. And how much better and surprising it is, compared to the rest of the otherwise ok series. I'm shocked it isn't rated number one, but I guess it's because the audience this show is aimed at is more immature, so they value the action episodes more.

This one has a very clever concept and an amazing twist at the end. It left me crying, just as much as the dog episode of Futurama. It's so impactful and thought out. It concentrates on the s1 characters that are the core of the story, it is less ridiculous than normal (but still funny) and it's much smarter. I don't want to comment on the story, because I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but I would definitely recommend it in a top 5 time-traveling episodes list of any show.

Arguably the best episode
wtfu-0600930 September 2021
Season 1 was perfect. Then, starting season 2, I was hugely disappointed. That was until this episode. It captures that dark hopelessness in a cryptic manner perfectly. It's what I loved about season 1. It's difficult to watch, emotionally, and even harder to contemplate after the episode ended. That's what makes it so great, its substance.

Wasted potential, still a good episode

Warning: Spoilers
An event that should've been extremely crucial for Cato's character seems to be forgotten by the showrunners during the next episodes.

Now, this one is actually pretty good in terms of storytelling, cinematography, animation and character development; specially for Little Cato's character but if it's so good then what's the problem? My principal problem with this episode it's the following:

Little Cato's 50 years of loneliness and hallucinations don't matter.

You'd think that after all that time of craziness and depression, the moment he gets back into the real world he would be insane, at least 20 times more insane than Gary after this sad, traumatic experience... but he isn't, he just gets sad for a while until the end of the episode and then comes back into action like normal Little Cato, the craziness of 50 years of hallucinations and being all alone just suddenly flew away from his mind in a few hours, this is inconsistent and destroys the change in Cato's mentality this episode was trying to create, truly a shame.

Worst episode to date

Season 1 was fantastic. Season 2 has been poor and this episode was dreadful, by far the worst. Like walking in treacle.
