Just a note. Time patrolling aliens/humans are not unique to rick and morty..... They did not do it first at all Perhaps that reviewer needs to watch or read some scifi that isn't rick and morty to gain a realistic perspective.....
There's almost no original ideas left within certain themes in scifi that will work on screen.... Unless you make up your own thing like the concept of final space in the series 'final space' and pull it off. Mostly everything has been done in one way or another... The era of ideas that haven't been used before in some way shape or form is coming to end... Just look at whats popular at the movies....... Rehashed crap. What's a marvel movie? Good guy vs bad with new superheroes and villains in each film doing the same story pregression to keep the same repeated story telling 'fresh and original Everything's been used up. At least appreciate when a really talent person does it and makes it as true to there own vision that doesnt pander to the large audience of mindless drones who lap up watching the same movie over and over again with different super heroes or reboots of everything. It may not be 100% original. Live with it, or hate all new entertainment media for the foreseeable future and only watch old series that got there first with using a original idea. That means watching a lot of star trek hahahaha
