Utterly stylish, meticulous Adult drama
lor_8 June 2020
Avi Love comes into her own as an Adult Cinema actress in Hank Hoffman's "Sex & Lies", a Wicked Pictures feature that represents (in microcosm) the promise of that brief "porno chic" artistry of XXX movies back in the '70s, which has disappeared in recent decades in favor of the all-sex gonzo approach.

She narrates a decadent but oh-so attractively detailed story of success in an sophisticated, amoral segment of society. With wonderful, brief flashback images, she tells of her job as personal assistant to Logan Pierce, a boss who cheats on his wife (Sovereign Syre, welcome in a bisexual role for a change) and even mocks Avi by regularly flaunting his affair with the company's bookkeeper (Nikki Peach). Topping off the milieu of decadece, Syre is bedding her pilates instructor (Codey Steele).

This situation comes to a head when Syre decides to divorce Logan, after Avi gets evidence of her boss's adultery to help Sov in acquiring ownership of their lavish home. And Syre gives Avi entree to a new job, working for Ryan Driller and the mysterious femme party planner known as Perry.

This new job involves putting together all the details for a rarified femme clientele: lesbians who have ne'er-do-well husbands and need a sexual outlet without going through the messiness of disrupting their marriages.

Avi is playing an usual character, obsessed with detail, order and perfection, making her a key element in the offbeat, storyline. We find out who Perry is, and what Avi's future will be.

This is a rare success in combining explicit sex content with fascinating characters and an engrossing story, clearly out of step with a 21st Century porn industry (and audience) only interested in sex, sex and more sex, but proof that there remains a different way.
