Forget anything to do with Holmes, Watson and Victorians, it's a fun start.

....ok, so to begin with I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to Sherlock Holmes, I personally love the Jeremy Brett era, the real feel for The Victorian era.

I was so excited to see this, what a great idea, and what a wonderful title. I get why people love it, I also get why people hate it. Calling it The Irregulars is plain wrong, as it has absolutely nothing to do with the idea of Holmes and Watson.

As a stand alone series, I liked this first episode, and will watch more. It's 2021, of course it's woke, but it is a fantasy series, I don't think the intention is to show a true Victorian London, come on.

It is flawed beyond belief, there is nothing Victorian about it, the music and dialogue are ridiculous, words used and sayings simply don't fit.

Production values are off the scale, it looks incredible, costumes, buildings. I may be wrong, but I recognise parts of Liverpool here, bit London. The scenes with the crows looked fantastic.

I'm confused by the audience they're going for here, maybe the millennials?

I liked it, 7/10.

Promising

I'm just beginning this series. It's a youth mystery but a step up from CW. Good performances from the young cast. Encircling an alternative darker perspective on Dr. Watson and the other resident of 221b Baker Street. A little bit light horror, a little bit thriller, all adventure. On my initial look, I give this series a 7 (promising) out of 10. {Fantasy, Drama, Mystery}

Chapter One: An Unkindness in London
Prismark1022 April 2021
There have been shows about the Baker Street Irregulars before.

This is done with a Netflix twist. A computer algorithm was involved and the answer was: Give it a dark supernatural twist.

The first episode had glimpses of a heavily addicted Sherlock Holmes. An unkind Dr Watson seeks out some street urchins.

Bea is the leader of the pack but her sister Jessie has supernatural gifts. Along with Billy and Spike they gather information of some babies being stolen.

Some comedy is provided by Leo, a haemophilic prince who has the hots for Bea.

Tonally it is all over the place. I would have thought it would be aimed at teenagers but might be regarded as a bit too risque or just dark. Such as the young woman with her eyes pecked out.

There were nods to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies. Some of the special effects were very well done.

An uneven first episode which only finds it form when Dr Watson shows up with a mission.

I really like this show , it checks all the boxes Do not listen to all the negative reviews , they are biased and incorrect, see fir yourself.

It's well written , beautifully shot and decently acted . The characters are interesting and the action is non stop , what else can you ask for ?

Can't wait for season 2.

Unexceptional.

I think it's genuinely lovely & truly admirable how Netflix is willing to invest vast amounts of money in to newly emerging creators, taking risky chances on potential talents within the British TV industry - providing them with major opportunities to prove themselves as worthy of such generosity... But as this episode proves, not all gambles pay off & the trust imbued within people can often be found to have been misplaced.

Hence, with "The Irregulars", audiences are treated to a beautiful example of how not to make a TV show, featuring amateurish direction, tonal inconsistencies, inappropriate sexualisations of a 17 year old character, logical flaws, inexcusably bad writing, hammy performances in poorly constructed sequences, silly utilisations of unconvincing CGI, average cinematography, sub-par editing etc. An absolute masterclass in lacklustre mediocrity. Large production budgets don't compensate for low standard storytelling or filmmaking. The funds should've been allocated elsewhere.

That sound you hear is Arthur Conan Doyle rolling over in his grave.

What has this show got to do with Sherlock Holmes or Dr Watson?
dreamsinger-7387327 March 2021
Not much, other than to use those characters names to draw people in to it. They should have called it something else since it really doesn't have anything to do with sleuthing, and unlike a Sherlock Holmes story that is based in the real world this show delves into unrealistic magic.

The forced diversity in this show is terrible and obvious for anyone who knows anything about the Victorian era. Typical untruthful garbage created to force a non-sustainable lie of the times.

The production is terrible and lacks any real thought. They can't even get actors to speak with an English accent in much of it, and the music doesn't fit and is anachronistic making it stick out like a sore thumb.

Hopefully this show end after this season and Netflix puts the money saved into a show worth watching.

I wanted so much to like this.

Love love LOVED the premise. Supernatural meets Holmes. The application, however, is bad. The dialog is bad. The acting is hardly better (though turning bas dialog into good acting is challenging at best).

This is what would happen if you took a great idea and gave it to a high school drama class to write...if you like high school drama productions, you might like this. If you have higher standards than that, you wont.

You've seen this before and possibly haven't liked it

The show takes itself too seriously and thus you can't. That godawful backscore is like a bum in sparkly jacket twadding their head and snapping fingers in your face while you try watching the show. The victorian setup and the iconic names are just eyewash and has as much to do with this show as my grandma. And thankfully that's naught.
