J-Tro does it again.

While I slightly preferred the first two films in this ridiculous saga, Escape from Bako is still one hell of a beat-off.

Dance with your mind, not your feet!

BEAT OFF!
BandSAboutMovies10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sobriety and time travel aspect threaten JTRO (director, writer and star Jason Trost) and the FP in the third installment of The FP. What can twenty grand and some green screen get you? A movie with a vision.

L Dubba E (Lee Valmassy) has returned, thanks to the aforementioned chronal messing about, as well as JTRO's daughter with Chai-T, Chai-TRO (Lib Campbell). Where the first two movies are filled with tons of action - and this has some - this builds the universe and makes it dense, kind of like how by the late 90s you needed several guides and needed to know someone to be able to understand a single issue of X-Men. The mythology has gotten so rich that you need to wade into it slowly.

When I got the opportunity to interview Jason Trost, he said that "I feel like with each movie, well, they're all parodies, so to speak. They're all satirical, parodying new genres and new movies every single time. So the joke just continues to evolve. At this point, the same characters are almost in completely different worlds every time."

Are the movies still exciting for him? It sure seems that way, as he added "...every time there's no rules. I can really just kind of do what I want with it. The only rule per se of this franchise is that each one has to be more ridiculous and the stakes have to be higher every time. If I can do that I can pretty much do whatever I want. I think that's kind of what I've built and set up with this franchise. If you're still here at this point, you kind of know that's the deal. Every time it gets to be fresh because they get to go on an entirely new adventure."

I Is Sad, Yo.

Warning: Spoilers
The first two FPs tickle me right in the funny stick. They never get old and they're always worthy of a random re-watch. The outrageous characters, the funny af sets/costume design, and even though the first two were very different they were both hilarious. Unironically two of my favorite movies!

Escape from Bako is not great, it's not even a movie... It's an hour long green screen Covid project that is 97% post production effects mixed with FP style dialogue. I get it, Australians and big fans of the left wing establishment were especially terrified of the Wuhan flu, but why not postpone this shizz until you feel safe enough to make proper movie? You know, with people... And sets..... And where things happen.... Damn...

The opening scenes in the FP 1 and 2 are iconic. JTro in the mirror, pumping himself up for his beat off... Old man J-Tro selling "bop its" to kids out of his shack...The first 20 minutes of this 60 minute long "movie" was exposition (funny at first but daaaamn) and it's BORING. Okay fine, I realize he's trying to stretch his project into two films, so maybe it's just getting off to a slow start... No, no that's not the case at all... Green screen dialogue... And more green screen dialogue..... Some green screen "action" thrown in, and then more green screen dialogue...

I don't know what went wrong... Or why J-Tro fake running in front of a green screen like a MAD TV comedy sketch from 1998 seemed like a good idea... In hindsight he should have waited until he and the wifey weren't self quarantining and bathing in booster juice to make ONE solid movie and close out the franchise. Giving this a 3 star is generous, because I really hated it, and I HATE saying that because of how much I love the first two.

Buy it for 7 bucks if you want to support indy films, but do not expect anything close to the off beat classics FP1 and FP2.
