This short film is perhaps one of the best Australian shorts made in the past 13 years, but sadly it coincided with Melbourne's COVID lockdowns so never made it into the Melbourne International Film Festival (which had to be cancelled, except for a meagre online offering). Baroque music played on recorders. Vast post-modernist architecture of a shopping mall. Ultra-realistic (and funny) teenage girls with their byzantine intrigues. Birds (nesting in the mall rafters) narrating - yes, narrating. It heralds the coming of a truly brilliant Australian auteur. Sophie Somerville's follow-up short "Linda 4 Eva" is quite different (more of a home-made, gilttery Guy Maddiny vibe) but equally brilliant.
