Warning: Spoilers
Well..first of all we need a season 2. Is Martha or Nora dead? I need to learn that. And really that was a great show, absolutely thrilling.

Season One Review
southdavid9 February 2021
Took a bit of a chance on this one, as it hasn't had much advertisement, but the premise intrigued me. I was rewarded with an entertaining series, full of performers that I hadn't seen much of before but who were great, and an intriguing and entertaining story.

A group of teenage girls survive a plane crash and wake up on an uninhabited island. As their days turn into weeks, the hope of immediate rescue fades and they must try and stay alive whilst working out their issues both internal and with each other. But all is not what it seems. There was no plane crash, the girls were drugged and their crash was staged. They are part of an experiment and are being monitored, something one of the girls in the group is already aware of, as she is a plant.

The spectre of "Lost" casts a little bit of a shadow over "The Wilds". Plane crash onto a mysterious island, the story revealed in parallel present day and flashback. Fortunately, the secrets of the Island are revealed to the audience fairly quickly, save for the one juicy one, about which of our heroines is working with Rachel Griffiths mad scientist. It doesn't come close to having "Lost's" predilection for building and building on the mythos either. Though we don't actually see it until later in the season, it's made clear to us early on how and why the girls are there.

The performances of all the actresses are really good. This is not to say that all the characters are likable, indeed all of them are flawed people, who either did something regrettable in their past, or had something done to them, which gets to their issues. There are lots of moments of comedy and the music choices are mostly really good.

Admittedly, the complaint I read that I can't argue against is that they don't behave as I feel I would in the same situation. They take a long time to build a shelter and then stay rooted on the Beach too long. They don't explore island properly, they don't move to the fresh water supply. There's quite a bit of sex and swearing, that would make the show unsuitable for the younger end of what might been it's target audience.

But if you can suspend a little of that disbelief, as I did, then there's much to admire in the series and I'm looking forward to the second.

Lots of unanswered questions
kelseyjohnston116 February 2021
This show was pretty easy to get into. It left just enough mystery at the end of each episode with a walk into a new story line to leave you wanting. I watched this whole first season in only a couple days. The character of Leah is mostly what drew me in because of her inability to let things go and just go with the flow when she realizes that something just isn't right. The characters are well developed, and flawed and relatable in most instances. It's definitely an easy, watch. Hoping for a second season to get answers from the first.

Great acting but too many plot holes
islesrok21 December 2020
The acting and story are compelling but I just can't get past the plot holes. They don't search for food, find shelter, hunt, fish, etc. They are literally dying of starvation hoping for food to magically appear while sun bathing. It makes zero sense.

The flashbacks and flash forwards were tolerable in the first few episodes as they were brief and seamlessly intertwined with the plot. But by the last few episodes I guess the writers got lazy. The season finale where the climax of the story is building is literally wasted on long drawn out flashbacks which do not weave into the plot in any interesting or dramatic way.

All the girls are great actors and carried the show anyway.

Desperate Grab for a Second Season
wildernessbarbie13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Massive plot holes left, with zero reasons why even HINTED at.

Apparently Nora was eaten by a shark? How were the girls finally rescued? Why "quarantine?" How did the girls POSSIBLY accept not seeing their families AT ALL?!!? Do they not have any friends wanting to know where they were?!!? We're supposed to believe like six people pulled that off??? They have this WHOLE ISLAND to find and/or create shelter, and they choose open beaches, not once, but TWICE after the first camp is washed away?!!? This instead of near where the fresh water was? What happened to their signal fire?!!? Or big HELP SOS sign on the beach?!!?

They don't make any real attempt to save themselves, to summon help, to be proactive about their survival. The entire experiment is a failure on so many levels. The absence of males makes the entire thing moot.

If this was extrapolated to society we'd ALL be eaten by proverbial sharks.

Worst episode of the whole season
eunbi053012 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why was Shelby getting an anaphylactic shock? We were shown several scenes where that company had a bunch of information on their "test subjects", so why didn't they know that Shelby was allergic to seafood?

Also that "what the f#$%" ending was severely anticlimactic, there were so many things they could have done to better end this terrible series.

Besides, they spent at least 23 days on that island, they were supposed to spend a weekend, were all parents okay with their children missing for over 3 weeks? Without any direct contact?

Not only that, were they taunting Dot as the second "spy" and out of nowhere they changed it to Nora? What's the point on that?

Moreover, what do the parents even get for checking in their daughter there? Were they getting money? I can see why Toni's foster parents would want that, but Fantin's? Was it for brainwashing? Shelby's parents might be included here, but what about Martha's? Not only that, we are shown that Leah's friend reached out to her parents, him knowing how obsessed she was with her ex-boyfriend, wouldn't he get in touch with him to ask if Leah called him? Wouldn't he also go to the police to tell them she was missing?

Wait for season 2
big_kahuna22-314-7370781 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all these are the stupidest people you will ever see stranded on an island. My advise is to wait to see if there is a season 2 or you will be very annoyed at the sudden cliff hanger ending. SPOILERS: I was surprised at who the 2nd planted informant was. Most of the plot including the shark attack was pretty predictable.
