The plot thickens and the suspense continues...
etherealreviews26 April 2021
"Fathers" picks up right where the pilot ended making the storyline pretty sequential. The inner wannabe detective in us makes us want to guess who the culprit is and the show does a good job in making it difficult for us and still make it a unambiguous story. What I like about the writing is that the storyline so far is simple enough to follow meaning there are no unnecessary elements that complicate the plot as other shows have the practice of doing and yet Mare of Easttown keeps us intrigued.

The county detective comes across as a narrow ray of light among the otherwise gloomy themed characters. Kate Winslet continues to shine in this episode and we get a peek at Mare's emotional vulnerability which was masked in the pilot. (A couple of jokes are thrown in which fit in well)

Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Warning: Spoilers
No spoilers here. But the plot thickens, the characters get far more rounde d, the pacing far swifter and consequently the viewer is more engaged & entertained.

A very good episode all round, well directed, written and acted. Winslet is very believable .

The plot thickens and the ending to this had me wanting to watch more right away, I don't want to wait! I like getting to know the characters of the small town and how they're intertwined.

This is the kind of show that you save her. It's all about the dialogue, but there are key moments that get you wound up. Only two episodes so far but the plot thickens and I'm excited for the next one.

Some of the best TV I've seen in years
wandasvision10 June 2021
This episode knocked me off my feet. So rarely do you have an hour of television where constantly each scene something is happening AND new information is being learned. They've found a way to make the town so interconnected that learning anything about their personal lives FEELS integral to the case. So every second counts. This episode doesn't slow down. If this is how it starts I'm THRILLED to see how it progresses.

A salacious second episode that furthers both the storyline and the characters. The acting is amazing and the characters perfectly cast. Captivated and ready for more.

[8.8] The fathers

Warning: Spoilers
A much more on point episode, starting to roll full steam with great acting, much smoother flow and strong intriguing vibe. It really improves on the pilot and I sincerely hope that they'd be keeping the high standard.

And I rate 10 stars. It's just what I do :) He's the best younger actor of this generation. He can play literally any role flawlessly.

Mare of Easttown (2021)

Series

1st Season

Episode Two - Fathers

It's very strange to see Evan Peters on the other side of the law, he plays a psychopath so well that when he acts as a detective (and he's great in the character) I suspect him.

I still don't cancel all my suspicions for climbing him, but let's suspect others.

I don't know who is more disgusting, if it's Brianna or her father, Brianna in front of Erin looked like the Hulk, but in front of the police she became a poor thing.

It's strange how they're making Guy Pearce's character the killer, it seems like the series is saying: "Look, this is your villain, don't suspect anyone else but him".

That final minute was strange, I swore the girl was going to say that the father of Erin's son was Erin's own father, but apparently it's the detective's ex, right?

Episode two of the first season of the Mare of Easttown Miniseries watched on May 17, 2024.

Rating: 9/10.

"Have a good night Mare"
gedikreverdi16 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Mare seems to have dodged a bullet because his ex Frank might be the father of Erin's son. Brianna is really annoying and so is her father but I think Mare can deal with them. Her son committed suicide and the mother of her grandson wants his full custody. Erin's father shot Erin's ex husband in the woods thinking he's the killer.
