They've Found a New Tobias!
Gislef3 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Which is good, since I've been missing Tobias. Who has been AWOL since Team Jeff broke him out of Markovia.

And I'm referring to Wayne Brady in the title. Who knew that the guy on "Whose Line Is it Anyway?" could be so good. I'm a little sick of the opening vlog sequences, but Brady sells it. The "Gravedigger versus Nazis" fighting goes on a little long, but I like Brady's monologue about how he calls himself Gravedigger because he always buries his enemies after killing them... if there's enough left of them. Bwah-hah-hah.

I also like that GD believes himself justified in what he's doing. It's better than Tobias and his casual racism. Yeah, GD (and the creative team) are taking it too far by having him kill any meta that won't go with him: it's like Harriet Tubman killing any slaves that won't flee the South. But I suppose GD wouldn't be a villain if he didn't go to absurd extremes.

The revelation that GD is Jeff's great-uncle doesn't really go anywhere this episode. Maybe it'll pan out next week, when Jeff points it out and notes that GD harmed his great-niece. And I do like it setting up Jeff wondering if Tobias is his cousin.

I'm still wondering why the CW producers decided to bring BL into the CWverse. Aren't Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, etc., kinda concerned that there's a meta that could potentially have all their powers? That seems like a Crisis right there. But I've always been fond of supervillains who can grab superpowers like candy and are "unbeatable": Sentinel #2, the original Calculator, the Super-Adaptoid, Paragon, Nemesis Kid, etc. Not to mention Markovia invading the U.S. I get that just having Flash speed in and punch GD a few hundred times wouldn't be satisfying to BL fans. But then why engineer the crossover in the first place?

The Grace/Anissa near-marriage was... harmless. I liked the little chemistry we got between TC and Erica, and Jennifer and TC working together. And Brandon going off on his own to question Jace. And James Remar gives solid supporting work.

The Odell/Eve thing demonstrates why the show needs a good central villain like GD or Tobias. Odell and Eve talk about things in vague terms because the writers want to hide future plot threads from the viewers, not because it's something two people who know what they're talking about would say. And there aren't any stakes: Eve talking about the Shadow Board when we don't know who the heck they are or what they do, means nothing.

Overall, decent episode that builds up to next week's season finale. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
