Delightful and Fun!
ProduccionesPalencia30 November 2020
It was a fun movie filled with horror movie tropes, didn't took itself seriously and the acting of Judy Greer was very good and funny. Recommended for an afternoon watch with friends!

Fun, yet tragic movie
MsHoneyBee13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to like this, it was better than Delivered, but I wasn't entirely happy with it.

Spoilers!!

The good:

I thought this movie was well acted by everyone involved, including Rueben! He was so cute! I liked all the characters and felt invested in their lives so that was a big plus. I thought the settings were fun and interesting and the story line was unique. The direction was good but I felt it was general and not tailored to the feel of the movie as much as it could be.

The bad and ugly:

I didn't like the ending. I noticed a trend with the Into The Dark episodes. They are often written with the most tragic ending in mind. I understand why that is good for certain movie types but in this case, I didn't think it was appropriate. This movie was part comedy and I would have liked to see some characters survive as opposed to them going with the fully tragic ending. I mean technically, even Maggie was punished for her interaction with the dog. I thought that was tough.

Specifically, Annie and Nate really deserved a crack at life after dealing with the dog. They were really good characters and cared a lot for Maggie but still as she came to the end of her mental journey with the dog, her "anxiety" got them killed. I didn't think that was fair, and yeah, life isn't fair but this was beyond the realm of characteristic tropes for this type of film, in my opinion. Sparing one or two characters is normal in a horror comedy.

All and all, I would recommend this movie with some precautions. lol.

Watchable could have been better
gustheaffen17 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ah what to do when your dog is a killer. Would have been a much better premise had she not known because really she had to be a psychopath to do what she did. As a horror comedy it was okay. Not great probably more watchable than most of these Into The Dark series.

Pretty good boy
korythacher24 October 2022
Bottom line: Good Boy is decent and was worth watching, but ultimately forgettable. It's more of a drama/horror-comedy. While some of the moments/themes were "heavy", it was a pretty light weight film.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. The horror elements are pretty mild, though there's a couple gorey/bloody scenes. It's mostly a drama/dark comedy, but definitely fulfills the description and they use the dog-monster side of things to be the comedic relief.

Judy Grier was great, I thought the acting and dialogue was mostly pretty good. Some of the decisions the characters made were a bit silly even for the internal logic, but nothing that lasted long enough to be a bother.

All-in-all it was a fun film, but unfortunately they didn't do anything too memorable. I wish they'd done a little more with the dog-monster and had a couple crazy scenes to leave an impression. Because of that, I won't go out of my way to recommend this, but they didn't really do anything too bad and I enjoyed it.

Fun little film that could've been improved on
cinnamonpuff28 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Before I begin, I'd just like to say I'm not a movie critic by any means, but I do like to flatter myself and say I have at least an above-average understanding of writing, characters, etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our movie's plot deals with our protagonist, Maggie, getting an emotional support animal for her anxiety (even though I wouldn't really consider it anxiety) named Reuben. As we progress, we are shown Reuben killing many people in Maggie's life, all of which causes her stress. It ends with Maggie getting put in jail and Reuben getting put back in the pound to be adopted by a new owner.

This movie wasn't as bad as I had expected, but definitely had things it could've improved upon.

For one, the movie seems to move at *snail pace.* They could've easily cut much of the fluff out and made the story more interesting, only keeping the most important scenes or rewriting unnecessarily long ones. Second, I feel this concept would've worked better as a horror-comedy, as many other reviewers have pointed out. Third, I feel like they could've made it to where Maggie was delusional, believing the dog was doing the murders when it was really just her lashing out, as it's shown in the movie she has a problem with anger. That could've made for a more interesting twist, and I always love to see the unreliable narrator trope.

However, I did like the ending, as cheesy/cliche as it may be. I always enjoyed how nuanced the film was. While nothing groundbreaking (and really the bare-minimum of good storytelling), the film does bring back things from earlier in the film, specifically phrases, to add merit to the themes of the movies. It makes you go, "oh hey, I remember that!"

All-in-all, this film wasn't horrible by any means, but it could've been stronger. If you love animals (such as myself) and just want to sit back and turn your brain off for a while, this would be a good film to do so with.

Horror or comedy?
sabrinadoll13 January 2022
Basically the majority of this movie is about a woman with anxiety who adopts a dog shes alone in a apartment and despite her anxiety she goes out and meets people and is very cheerful. This movie says its a horror thriller but personally i feel like its more of a comedy with silly humor and jokes and comedy type music. There is no horror in this movie really except for a few lousy jump scares and the dog that kills people which the movie doesnt even show it doing. Other then that i give it 3 at of 10 stars only cause im not much of a fan of comedy's and i found the plot in the movie to be all over the place, if your a fan of comedy's tho give the movie a shot but it will not scare you and its not much of a thriller in anymeans.

Into the Dark - Good Boy - It is not a stupid dog movie.
bviessman-340606 April 2021
I adore Judy Geer. I was happy to see her starting in this installment. I am always leery of watching stories that may harm or kill the dog. However, I love this dog. I knew that the dog would triumph. It is a tad cheesy at times but a solid story a good watch for sure.

Mediocre. Sometimes entertaining but the whole picture isn't enough
patrickfilbeck28 September 2021
This dog-horror has a nice premie and again for ItD not enough explanation behind the horror. It's more like waiting and waiting and waiting for the big story-bang and nothing is coming. Greer is good though.

Really one of the best installments so far. I had a dog that was very protective of me. It made me think of him.

Shallow and predictable
parliam30 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The whole movie is super predictable. The doctor said she might encounter some hallucination from the medication but they did nothing with that to deepen the plot. Instead the whole storyline was a very straight forward and shallow. They could've done something like she hallucinated the dog killing but turns out it was actually her. Even though that's still pretty lazy, it would've been better than this.

What?
brnewlun3 March 2021
Idk how people consider this a horror film. It's too upbeat to be a horror film. Judy greers character also too upbeat, just seems too unbelievable that she has anxiety. I suffer from this illness and yeah just didn't feel it. If you're going to have a killer dog, why make it so small. I feel, knowing she was a executive producer, that she just wanted to make a movie with her own dog in it. Idk if it is her dog, just feels that way. Also for someone with anxiety, it sure seems easy for her to go out on dates, do things in public, etc.

I do want to try some of those mints though.

Terrible Movie!
slimmie-3252015 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I dont know what movie these others reviewers watched but this had to be the stupidest movie I've seen since Killer Tomatoes. Yes..its up there with that. I'm an animal lover too and the thought of a dog killing all the people in my life that stress me out is not a bad thought..but this movie was so dumb. Like is it supposed to be funny? Is it made to be a cult film? Garbage! Breast feeding a dog? Come on. Need I say more?

I loved this.

I wish I had a Reuben. I knew what was going on from the beginning with this story, but I didn't care. The predictable story was so well told that I loved it.

Just terrible
petervboven937 July 2022
Definitely one of the worst into the dark episodes ever made. There was literally no suspense and it didn't even feel as a thriller. They also didn't even try to make it a good movie, only thing they did was show some bodies and that stupid dog.

Absolute garbage.
jakemcelreath3 May 2021
I made an account just to say how bad this movie was. Watching my fingernails being torn from my fingers would be more entertaining and less painful. Don't watch this movie unless you hate yourself or want to lower your standards of movies for the rest of your life.

[8.6] The HYDEing dog
cjonesas12 June 2021
A great episode that some will love (pet lovers!) and some will hate (selfish lovers!). It is full of nuanced messages and a warning to those seeking a pet animal for emotional support and therapy!

The main character did her job near perfectly and her unconditional love for Reuben was very believable.

Good Boy, good boy... Drop IT!

Stay away!
stephensdawson31 January 2021
I'd honestly rather eat my foot than watch this movie again. This was the biggest waste of time ever. The only good thing about it was the overwhelmingly great feeling of accomplishment when the movie was over because I really didn't think I was going to be able to finish this atrocity but I pulled through.

An average addition to the genre but worth watching once
kevin_robbins30 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good Boy (2020) is another Into the Dark movie I recently watched for free on Hulu. The storyline is about a reporter who is going through some transitions in life - she is getting older and wants children and recently had her job go from permanent to contracted. She feels investing some time with a dog may reduce her stress levels; unfortunately, the dog she selects does quite the opposite. This movie is directed by Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and stars Judy Greer (13 going in 30), McKinley Freeman (End of Watch), Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy) and Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim versus the World). The storyline for this picture is well paced and fun to watch unfold. I did wish the kill scenes were revealed earlier and special effects a little more intense, but overall this has an interesting premise to watch unfold. The overall movie itself is an average addition to the genre but worth watching once. I'd score this a 5-5.5/10.

Really good until
Pnkprinses30915 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The ending...

That dog would be way too loyal to just let her go to jail. And she would have proof he did it by being anxious. Unless they're implying he fixed her anxiety in the end? This is just weird. Especially the dog breast feeding thing.

This felt like a horror movie. Not a great one, but that is a step in the right direction for the show which doesn't always gives us horror stuff.
