Tyler Hoechlin: Clark Kent, Superman

Quotes

  • Clark Kent : I think Jordan's hearing kicked in.

Jor-El : Yes, his mechanosensations have become significantly enhanced.

Clark Kent : How do we stop the pain?

Jor-El : His auditory perception is causing an allodynic response. Until he can control what he hears, every sound will be accompanied by pain.

Clark Kent : I have to help him.

Jor-El : Teach him how to focus, share what you know, but it will take much practice on his part, the same as it did for you, Kal-El.

  • Clark Kent : Who's this?

Lois Lane : The real Marcus Bridgewater.

Clark Kent : So, the guy from the mines...

Lois Lane : Lied. Even tried to cover his tracks by scrubbing all images of Marcus Bridgewater from the Internet. Luckily, Maxy still has a friend at Reuters who had a photo.

Clark Kent : So why is he lying about his identity?

Lois Lane : I don't know. I mean, it probably has something to do with the fact that he knows so much about Edge.

Clark Kent : So, two people working for Edge have attacked you, and both have had powers.

Lois Lane : Yeah. I'm sure there are others.

Clark Kent : Yeah, which is why I think we should tell the boys what's going on.

Lois Lane : Well, that's a pretty big departure from not wanting them to know anything about Superman.

Clark Kent : Well, hindsight, maybe that wasn't the best choice.

Lois Lane : This feels different. The whole point of moving to Smallville was to give them a shot at a normal life, not terrify them.

Clark Kent : I know, I know, but...

Lois Lane : Plus, Jordan has the stuff going on with the hearing, and Jonathan hasn't made any friends. It doesn't feel fair to give them one more thing to worry about.

Clark Kent : I think they can handle this.

Lois Lane : I still think that we need to know more about what we're dealing with, and then we can discuss it.

  • Clark Kent : Well, that was fast.

Lois Lane : Chrissy called. Looks like Edge is on the move. Any luck with the RV?

Clark Kent : You were right about knowing it when I found it.

  • Lois Lane : How long 'til the super-hearing levels out?

Clark Kent : My father said he has to adapt on his own.

Jonathan Kent : How long were you out of commission for?

Clark Kent : A couple weeks.

Jonathan Kent : So, now, let me guess. I have to come up with another BS excuse as to why he's not going to school?

Lois Lane : I'll call Principal Balcomb first thing in the morning, okay? You two should get to bed.

Clark Kent : [Jon leaves]  Jordan.

[blowing a short gust of freeze breath to get Jordan's attention]

Clark Kent : We'll work on this tomorrow.

[hugging Lois good night, Jordan leaves, too]

    Clark Kent : Hey, hey.

Lois Lane : He was in so much pain.

Clark Kent : I know, I know. Once it settles in, he'll be fine. Promise.

  • Clark Kent : I gotta say, I don't love the idea of leaving you alone with him.

Lois Lane : [spotting "Marcus"]  Well, get used to it, 'cause he's here.

Clark Kent : And what exactly am I looking for?

Lois Lane : You'll know it when you see it.

  • Clark Kent : [showing Jordan a note reading "focus on one sound"]  You can do this.

    Jordan Kent : It hurts.

Clark Kent : I know, but you're gonna have to work through it, okay? One sound at a time. Come on.

[taking off his headphones, Jordan tries to focus on the dripping sink faucet; overwhelmed by everything else, he puts them back on]

    Jordan Kent : I can't do it. I'm sorry.

Clark Kent : [he stands to leave]  Jordan. Jordan!

Jordan Kent : We'll just try it tomorrow or something.

  • Clark Kent : Where are you going?

Lois Lane : To confront the former Mr. Bridgewater. Will you stay close by today? I have a feeling I'm gonna need your help.

  • Superman : Interesting place for a meet.

John Henry Irons : I'm a builder. Always felt comfortable in places like this... Surrounded by scraps and parts.

    Superman : Building's a noble profession.

John Henry Irons : Been a while since anyone's paid me to do it.

Superman : Any chance one of those people was Lex Luthor?

John Henry Irons : It was a different life.

Superman : Why are we really here?

John Henry Irons : Because the world's about to be destroyed unless I save it.

Superman : And how exactly are you planning on saving the world?

John Henry Irons : By eliminating the threat.

Superman : And you think that threat is Morgan Edge?

John Henry Irons : Edge is involved, the he wont' be the main source of destruction.

Superman : Then who will it be?

John Henry Irons : [speaking Kryptonian]  I think you know, Kal-El.

    Superman : You're the Stranger.

[Superman tries flying at him, he is stopped in his tracks by red solar lights on an RV]

John Henry Irons : I had a feeling you might try that. So I set these solar flares to a motion detector.

Superman : Why are you doing this?

John Henry Irons : Like I said, I'm here to save the world. You see, Kal-El, you're not the Man of Steel.

[a hammer flies in his hand]

John Henry Irons : I am.

  • John Henry Irons : This hero act of yours is all propaganda, a way to soften the masses before you turn on them. I made a promise to kill you once. I wasn't able to keep that promise on my Earth. But I will here.

[Jordan hits him with the car]

    Superman : [weakly]  Lights.

    Jonathan Kent : What?

    Superman : The lights!

[with some effort, Jonathan picks up Irons' hammer and smashes the RV headlights; regaining some of his strength, Clark approaches Irons, ready to fire his heat vision]

Lois Lane : Stop! It's over. It's over.

  • Jordan Kent : [hearing Superman in trouble]  Okay, you're gonna have to go faster, all right? Dad doesn't have much time.

Jonathan Kent : Jordan, I've only driven Mom's car before! Please just tell me which way to go.

Jordan Kent : [holding his ears in pain]  It's so loud.

Jonathan Kent : Well, whenever you were listening to me and Sarah at school earlier, whenever you heard us, just please do that. Please. Jordan, please focus. Please.

Superman : [to Irons]  You're wrong about me.

Jordan Kent : [indicating where to go]  That way! That way, that way, that way!

  • Lt. Rosetti : [watching Irons in his cell]  So this guy came back from the dead to try and kill you?

Superman : Wouldn't be the first time.

Lt. Rosetti : Want Trask to take a run at him? Try and loosen him up?

Superman : Nobody talks to him until General Lane gets here in the morning. And when he does, I'm going in first.

  • Clark Kent : Could he actually be Lex Luthor?

Lois Lane : I don't know, but with everything we know about the multiverse now, I'd say anything's possible.

Clark Kent : Like what? He's related to Lex somehow? Maybe a son we don't know about?

Lois Lane : Well, he said he worked for LuthorCorp. That can't just be a coincidence.

Clark Kent : Yeah. And Lex wouldn't be the first public figure trying to keep his family hidden from the world.

Lois Lane : I'll have Chrissy look into it. Are they still up ahead?

Clark Kent : [using his powers]  Yeah. About two miles up. It looks like they've got an escort. There's a panel van with four guys with guns inside a couple cars back.

Lois Lane : That seems on brand for Edge.

Clark Kent : What do you wanna do?

Lois Lane : Just keep following. I wanna see where they're taking the X-Kryptonite.

Clark Kent : [spotting Luthor further on up ahead]  I don't think that's gonna happen.

Lois Lane : What is it?

Clark Kent : I'm definitely starting to think your new friend is a Luthor.

  • Lois Lane : If Edge is using X-Kryptonite to build an army, why would he send such a small shipment?

Captain Luthor : Probably wanted to see who'd come for it.

Lois Lane : Well, now that he knows, what's his next move?

Captain Luthor : It's hard to say, but we need to be ready.

    Clark Kent : Ready how?

Captain Luthor : It's what I was trying to tell you earlier.

Lois Lane : You wanna meet Superman.

Captain Luthor : It's the only way to stop this. You want answers? I'm willing to tell Superman everything.

Lois Lane : I'm not in the habit of just connecting him with people.

Captain Luthor : I'm thinking the possible end of the world might warrant an exception.

Lois Lane : Okay. But I want something from you.

    [indicating the case of X-K]

    Lois Lane : That.

Captain Luthor : Okay. But I need to know one thing first. Do you trust him?

Lois Lane : With my life.

Captain Luthor : I thought you'd say that. Set up the meet.

  • Lois Lane : All right, I'm gonna meet Chrissy, see if I can establish any connection between our guy and Lex.

Clark Kent : Yeah, I guess it's still our only lead.

Lois Lane : Maybe not. You said the voice in the RV called him Captain.

Clark Kent : Right, so he's military.

Lois Lane : [indicating the case of X-Kryptonite]  Which is why I want you to take that to the DOD for processing.

[he lets out a small laugh of impressiveness]

    Lois Lane : What?

Clark Kent : Nothing. Just, it has his prints. You know, you're really good at this.

Lois Lane : You better get moving, Superman. We don't have much time before your meeting.

  • Clark Kent : [Captain Luthor lays in wait to ambush Edge's X-K convoy]  Things are gonna get ugly if I don't do something.

  • Jordan Kent : I wanted to apologize for spying on you and Sarah earlier. I... I'm really sorry you have to lie for me like that all the time.

Jonathan Kent : Actually, this time, I kinda told the truth. I mean, not, like, all of it, obviously, but... but somehow it... it almost felt worse this way, 'cause it was, like, um, it's, like, I don't know. Like, intentional.

Jordan Kent : It feels like everything since we got here has just been a big secret. I just... I want it to go back to normal so bad.

Jonathan Kent : To be fair, Jordan, I mean, I'm pretty sure normal people have stuff that they're hiding, too.

Jordan Kent : Tonight's probably been the most scared I've ever been in my life.

Jonathan Kent : But, gotta say, it was also pretty awesome.

Jordan Kent : Yeah, okay, you did total that truck.

Jonathan Kent : Pretty sick. Bro, I don't even have a learner's permit.

Jordan Kent : Or know how to drive.

    Jonathan Kent : I know!

Clark Kent : [entering with Lois]  Which was incredibly reckless and dangerous and irresponsible and absolutely... necessary. You both saved my life tonight, so I think I owe you a pretty big thank-you.

  • Lois Lane : We know that you two must have a lot of questions about what's been going on around here.

Clark Kent : Look, we've taught you not to keep secrets from us.

Lois Lane : So we're not gonna keep secrets from you anymore.

Jonathan Kent : Isn't... isn't most of that stuff, like... like, classified, though?

Lois Lane : Yes. Which is why none of what we tell you can ever leave this house. Is that understood?

    Jonathan Kent : Definitely. Yeah.

Lois Lane : All right, who wants to go first?

Jordan Kent : What was that deal with the guy tonight?

  • Clark Kent : DOD has John Irons on lockdown. We'll start the interrogations tomorrow.

Lois Lane : I should've figured it out sooner.

Clark Kent : Lois, come on, you can't be that hard on yourself.

Lois Lane : I'm supposed to be this incredible reporter, but I got fooled tonight, and someone almost murdered my husband.

Clark Kent : It's not that simple. I mean, the guy's from another world.

Lois Lane : I still think there's more he's not telling us.

Clark Kent : So do I. Which is why John Henry Irons isn't going anywhere until we find out everything he knows.

Lois Lane : If it wasn't for the boys, you might've died tonight.

Clark Kent : I got lucky Jordan's hearing clicked when it did.

Lois Lane : With everything this family is facing, we can't rely on luck. You're right, Clark. We're not protecting the boys by keeping secrets from them.

Clark Kent : So what do you want to tell them?

    Lois Lane : Everything.
