A camp fire story
johno-218 September 2008
I saw this at the 2008 Palm Springs International Short Fest. In this tension filled frightful short a young couple Steve (Mark Devine) and Jessica (Heidi Johanningmeir) are driving on a rainy night through the rural West Virginia countryside and are briefly detained at a police roadblock. continuing through the night Steve is falling asleep while driving so he decides to pull over and spend the the rest of the night on the side of the road before continuing on. This is like an urban legend on film. Jake York directed, edited and produced it as well as co-wrote it along with Marcos Ponce. Excellent Cinematography by Bengt Johnson who was a camera operator for the popular award winning indie film The World's Fasted Indian. I know nothing of Jake York except that he sure knows how to make a film. Stephen Grove Malloy and Matt Zogaric round out the cast. I will expect we will hear a lot more from York in the future and I would give this a 9.0 out of 10 and recommend it.
