Dark, shocking and absolutely excellent

Warning: Spoilers
Um...wow. What else can be said really? The first half of the season finale is easily some of the darkest and most intense material I've seen in a kids show in a very long time-I'm actually somewhat surprised Disney allowed an episode like this to be made, what with the absolutely bone-chilling presence of Emperor Belos (in an amazing guest turn by Matthew Rhys) and the sheer emotional insanity of the climax.

Yet somehow despite that, it still manages to fit in some of the funniest jokes and sweetest character moments in the entire show, which is a testament to the attentive care of the show's writers, storyboarders, directors, designers and animators to make something that anyone of any age can enjoy.

Needless to say, after having watched this I don't think I'm prepared for what's in store from the REAL season finale...

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. I can't put my finger on what exactly made this one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen but it seems that I'm speechless to say the least

Where to begin, the episode starts off with almost a cold open, the foreboding conformatoriam is surrounded by silent echos and the faint sound of crackles of fire. The stained glass picture of the emperor is a perfect way of introducing his character, and with a single exchange of dialogue the episode starts, menacing visuals and unusually quiet noises signify this episode is not a normal episode.

While this show has moments of darkness this episode is what those nods were building towards, the stakes are high as we learn Eda's curse has gotten extremely worse and is at a state where there is almost no return.

As the episode progresses it seems that all the darkness goes away for a moment as the characters crack jokes and are the usual amount of whimsical they are, but tiny moments hint that the darkness shouldn't be looked over for a second.

The episode progresses and than it takes a insane turn in events, Luz becomes a hostage and Eda has to duel Lilith, the battle ensues in a very climatic way like the last one in " The convention" but this time a massive twist unravels and while I'll admit it is sort of predictable, I'm giving massive credit to Disney for having something like this air intended for children to watch. Than Eda allows the curse to take over her body in order for Luz's safety, than Lilith captures Eda, and sends Luz home. king asks where's Eda, and then Luz with tears in her eyes collapses to the ground. AND THEN THE EPISODE ENDS, LIKE WHY?

Breaking Bad level cliffhanger right there, i strongly believe this show has great potential to be one of the best animated shows of all time, up there with Gravity Falls, ATLA, and Rick and Morty.

Please Dana Terrace, don't hold back with the emotions, please emotionally scar me because this is elite television and needs to be recognized

It took the children's horror genre to the next level

Warning: Spoilers
I say with certainty that this is the best episode of The Owl House by itself, but I believe that title should stay for the second part of this season finale. This episode distances from the previous seventeen episodes we've had so far. Although The Owl House is definitely a good series due to the absurd constraints and the fun with the cliches of children's series, the general rhythm of the story was slow and disappointing. I really love this series, but I was concerned if Terrace and her team managed to make a good season finale with great direction or accelerate the main story elements in one place just to gather all the information we have about The Owl House so far to conclude by minus the story arc of the first season in a really attractive or touching way, and after my experience with this episode, my guess can't be wrong.

The episode has a very interesting lineage about prematurely confirming essential information for the story of The Owl House that I thought would take a little longer to unfold: the curse of Eda. I am not going to lie, I was really impacted at the same time foolish because it was revealed that the creature that cursed Eda was very obvious and was before the eyes of many people. I think it wasn't really intentional on the part of The Owl House team, but I was still shocked by a plot twist that, although it was essential for the course of what lies ahead, was not so surprising compared to the other first season plot twists that we had in some animated series. I wish the producers had distanced the target of whoever cursed Eda to make fans more surprised, to have created false evidence to catch us by surprise, but that's just a personal opinion. I will not lie that this plot twist was very nice and contributed to the development of the characters in question. It may not have been the best of all but it was one of the most insane that I have seen, especially if you have been watching the episode and have noticed the way the revelation was shown.

The thing that stands out most in this episode in relation to the others of The Owl House is its tone and sensation. "The Intruder" may have been a sizeable and simulated episode in this level, but it will strongly lose its taste if you notice that between it and this episode differ from each other by the way they tried to show the big turn, which coincidentally both is about the curse of Eda. "The Intruder" is a series of fun events with a hint of horror that we haven't had until now, but it was a bit of an acceleration and the experience feels like it has nothing to do with anything, although this was my favorite episode of The Owl House for a long time. Now in the case of this episode it is something much more different and serious: the touch of terror is more intense and the final scene is one of crying, when Luz comes home crying and amazes King and Hooty to learn the bad news. This was the first time that we saw Luz strongly in intense and heavy feelings (disregard the time she was furious in "Sense ans Insensitivity" or when she cried emotionally in "Understanding Willow" which was something played by humor). The final scene is more serious and melancholy, making this episode the saddest of The Owl House to date, as we had never really had that in previous episodes.

I was emotional with Luz, a character who is unlikely to be furious or sad about anything from her optimistic and youthful nature. You feel that she was really touched by what she saw. And besides, in this episode I saw my view of Eda in a different way. She declares herself to Luz in an impactful way as she slowly suffers damage, ending the speech with "a thank you to Luz for being part of (her life)". The best moment of The Owl House that managed to be even more incredible for its dark and captivating tone than Luz and Amity's dance in "Enchanting Grom Fright" and the fight between Eda and Lilith in "Covention". By the way, about the latter, in this episode we had something similar and, if we consider that this episode was possibly produced at home, in the midst of the pandemic of COVID-19, something the artists had to complete the episodes at home, while the witch duel in "Covention" required advanced special effects, you are even amazed by the quality of animation here. Animation in The Owl House is always something unique in the series and a strong positive point, so you will be involved with all the action of the episode, which will not disappoint you.

I also really liked Emperor Belos because he was considerably pious for wanting to accept Eda into his coven and still wanting to heal her curse instead of just killing her. Probably by Lilith's plea but, I repeat, I liked the character a lot. The items on the patio of Emperor's Castle just got a little meaningless for me, which did not have a considerable repercussion during the episode and I think in the second part of the season finale, although Luz will use her cape that Eda had made in this episode for battle against the Emperor's Coven and Lilith, who the latter deserves everything for what she did, and recruit King for help. I hope that the final battle of the season will not leave anything to be desired and perhaps that the special effects will give a real horror show (metaphorically speaking) as it was here. Without a doubt, the best episode of The Owl House so far that will impact you, regardless of whether you love or not this show or most of the previous episodes, which in general, for me, were average and favorable episodes for the quality of the show. In addition, an excellent episode that unfortunately was not aired alongside his successor for reasons unknown by Disney to have changed the schedule of episodes of The Owl House, but that will not stop me. I really liked the episode and the big plot twist, although somewhat obvious and not so surprising if you are a guy who loves theories and riddles about series you can get frustrated easily, it's intriguing and intense just like the episode as a whole. The Owl House once again proving how distinctive and characteristically scary it is, and I like that.

Oh my god...

All I can say for this episode is that it is filled with just about everything that any story loving fan would want. If you have seen and enjoyed all the past episodes, this episode will make all that stuff worth it. This was definitely the best episode since Understanding Willow, and I can't personally wait to see a certain character get their bottom kicked hard next week!
