Solid Episode, Odd Season
GoobyPolice27 January 2021
I think reviewers are being a bit harsh this season.

Outside of some clunky writing for Clarissa in this episode, I thought Winnipesaukee delivered. Solid story, great character moments, some cool action and that continuous action shot at the end.

I think the problem were all feeling is how unbalanced this season feels.

It's like they shot 20 episodes, had to cut it down to 10 but kept every second from Naomi's storyline, a good bit from Amos's and sacrificed everyone else's.

It's not bad, it just doesn't feel right.....

Filler? No way.
W4rland3r27 January 2021
Absolutely disagree with the opinion that the last two episodes were nothing but fillers. Ships blowing up and asteroids crippling planets isn't all that makes an episode great. And it's definitely not like nothing happened. Except for Belters speaking rather slowly and with surprising amount of words, everything that happened in this episode had a reason and place in the plot. From Naomi continuing her struggle, Drummers loyalties, Avasarala's values and Clarissa's morals and influence on Amos.

The cliffhangers are going to kill me though, I really wish I waited till the entire season is out. And I assume the worst cliffhanger is coming next week.

Great Setup Episode for the Finale
luk-5774227 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Episode checks all the boxes to setup the invevitable Showdown between Marco and the other characters. It will be interesting to see Marco's grand plan unfold. Amos' escpape from earth was handled well, as he watches the sun rise over earth, probably for the last time.

Regarding all the low star ratings: In no way is this show comparable to the later seasons of GoT. Only because the pacing of the show slows down, does not mean the writing is bad. On the contrary, it takes time to check in with all the characters and their way of coping with this new situation. The writing is not lazy! It is a character focused season. We see the characters' reaction to the rocks hitting earth, rather than the devastation itself, which is a stylistic choice. There's plenty of movies to watch, that properly portray catastrophic events, which The Expanse is not. We got plenty of Holden in the 4 seasons, now we learn more about the rest of the crew and that's awesome. Seeds about their past has been planted throughout the first seasons, which pays of this season. Naomi is not my favourite character either, but I don't get the hate regarding the focus on her struggle.

To sum it up: Great setup for the finale, hopefully that one will be longer though to properly conclude every storyline and pay off. Stop hating on this amazing space drama!!

Cmon The Expanse you can do better
kinmg27 January 2021
First half of the season was amazing but second half is kind of a let down, the only character arc I feel invested in is Camina's

Yet again
malte-neumann27 January 2021
Yet again there are some (very few) crucial scenes with Naomi Nagata, so some people can still follow their sillly agenda and express their alleged disappointment by the developement of a show which they claim to love, though they never realized its merits. Because obviously this episode is as good as ever. They refuse to enjoy any meaningful dialogue or any character development. They see a woman at the center of a story and that's it. Maybe they wished this season would be more about Amos (which is definitely a very interessting character), but while he has lesser screentime than Naomi, he is seemingly going soft, thanks to another female character. Too bad for them. I don't care. For me, at this point, The Expanse is still the most advanced SciFi show ever. It's essentially about relations in times of epic crisis and its makers , except for a short moment, never lost their way in doing their job.

The expanse is still great but...
scottsideasare3 February 2021
Naomi used to be tough but this entire season seems to revolve around her backstory and this episode is no different. Half of it is her blubbering, and yes it may be justified but it gets pathetic after a while.

The Once and Future Queen
sigelm27 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's a good quality production, as always, but it feels like a filler episode, which is especially odd considering there is only one episode left in the season. Amos & Peaches adventures were interesting to watch but not necessary to the story development - more like diversion or intermezzo of a kind. Naomi part was a repetition of the last episode, as well as the short dialogue on Razorback. James had approximately 30 seconds screen time. The moral and emotional struggle on Drummer's ship feels so overused and worn out that it has seriously become boring. The only true development storywise is Chrisjen trying to stop the genocide of the Belters and political shifts of the Earthers. This show have many excellent qualities, but if I absolutely had to point out one of them that would be Shohreh Aghdashloo's acting skills and the unique qualities she's added to the character she's playing. So if there weren't any other strong points left for the show, I'd still be glued to the screen for Madam Avasarala. I'd gladly give ten to the episode for Aghdashloo's last night's performance, but unfortunately the filler storytelling takes a lot away. Still expecting a lot of the last episode and the next season though.

Strong penultimate episode
ceyda181127 January 2021
People are complaining too much. It's a continuation of the story, so in a way it is a filler. Doesn't make it a bad episode. You need to look at it as a whole. Great acting as usual.

This is not the show I once loved
James09871 February 2021
I'm really not sure what's happened with this season, it feels like we're watching the Naomi show. The plot has not moved forward in any meaningful way, there's only 11 episodes left of the entire series and there's still so many questions left unanswered. Maybe the finale will be better but I don't see how anything could save this train wreck of a season at this point.

Well, Let's See How the Season Ends
Hitchcoc28 January 2021
I thought the stuff with Amos and his group on Earth was quite good. The post apocalyptics were well done. I know everyone is mad at Naomi. There is so much of her stationary, thinking things through. Nevertheless, it all hangs on the 10th episode. There should be some closure at the conclusion of each season and a look ahead. Do the writers have things planned so that the solar system isn't still all messed up when it all ends?

Better but what happened to this season?
dprater20030 January 2021
Better than last episode and maybe a decent episode for literally any show but expanse. What happened to this season? The last 3 episodes could've been wrapped up by now and got to the war that should've happened. Or something anything by now. Instead Amos is a shell of himself and we get 3 straight of Naomi figures out a mystery room and cries.

If you're disappointed quit watching!
efraincampos28 January 2021
There's nothing you can do to change the season, it's already been written and filmed quit whining. All the episodes have been good. You don't have to love everyone of them but it's funny how quickly people turn on their "favorite show" when the stories don't suit their vision of how it should go. Go write your own story and make a show, let us know when it comes out so we can let you know how bad the show is.

Generic
ComradWinston29 January 2021
It's almost as if everything that makes the expanse unique is thrown out an airlock this episode. Tons of time is spent on vapid drama, fights are stupidly charitable to main characters, and it generally feels like they're terrified to make the protagonists any shade of grey.

A disappointing trend of filler and empty plot points which exist to singularly push the story along have become only more obvious over these last two seasons.

Character shows shouldn't spend so much screentime on a single actor
flowirin28 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let's face it. Naomi's Character isn't interesting enough for all the screen time.

The same way fetishistic close ups of the Hunger Game's lead actress consigned the sequels to the dustbin of history, the obsession with close ups of Naomi Nagata as she poorly gurns her ways through various emotions is unnecessary, immersion breaking and downright ... boring ... a cardinal sin.

Amos and peaches are still epic. Indeed, Amos has the only arc with any kind of real plot, one that you can describe with more than a few lines. Marcos is a serviceable second rate villian, even Bobbie and James can dominate the screen. The Luna politics is a bit lame, firmly placed in the b-movie world of realism and scale, and the Tycho station dude on board the Rocinate barely functions as a plot device. The reporter lady has also been assimilated into the crew/decision making process with remarkable speed.

Maybe if we'd had more screen time working through the Luna and Rocinate political maneuvering and less of Naomi crying/screaming/emoting it wouldn't feel so hollow?

One episode dominated by it was bad. The opening departure from the team was pretty cringe and over done, but every single episode since then has had a significant percentage of its run time spent forcing more of the same at us. I've started skipping through whenever I see her alone in a scene.

The writers are responding very aggressively to criticism, attempting to re-frame it in a sexist/racist context in order to reject it, but it is neither. Just bad storytelling. We'd all be complaining as much if we had to sit through James Holden valiantly 'emoting' for HOURS

I enjoyed this Ep
antonydwhitehead28 January 2021
OK so maybe the Naomi / Marco dominant sub-plot ain't the best . . but please forget the negative reviews as all-in-all this was a pretty good Ep. The Amos, Avasarala and Camino characters were excellent as always. The actors did their job. There was tension, action and build-up in spades. The Expanse sets itself such a high standard fans can be excused for getting frustrated during the quieter moments. But the dramatic tension heightened by convincing action on a frozen Earth contrasting with the tense claustrophobia in space, underscored by great action effects and music had me engrossed throughout. The Expanse remains indisputably the best Sci-fi Drama (with a capital D) on TV. Period!

Exotism in the expanse
leibbrand22 April 2021
Not specifically connected to this episode, but as Amos brings Clarissa on the ship, I couldn't help but think why are all the women in this series some ethnic mix (mostly Asian, I also count Drummer and Oksana among those) while almost all the guys are white (Alex and Fred Johnson were about the only exceptions).

Naomi "Nagata" and Clarissa "Mao". Lol. This series is just an exoticist nerd's wet dream.

Well I still like it.
tracker7829 January 2021
Some of the previous' episodes reviews sound a bit...spoiled. At least to me. I like the constant shift of pace, and deeper character development. Agreed, one episode to go in this season leaves Holden, Bobby and Alex kinda neglected, but I really can't say that other story arcs are uninteresting.

Finally something watchable
barnabas-0060527 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode finally had some decent development and the story is going somewhere. Glad to see something to happen with Avasarala since we barely saw herdo anything since episode 4. Still way too much Naomi though. It was simply useless to show her boring stretched-out struggle continue in this episode, of course, without any development

Ignore the hate, it's a very enjoyable episode
joanbt29 January 2021
Another Naomi episode? Are you guys really watching the episode? At last pay attention first to do a review, she just appears in the beginning and in the end, stop the free hate. This is more a Amos and Chrisjen episode, a good one, with good scenes from Drummer as well. This season is already better than the fourth. The expanse fans don't know what a filler really is.

Slow and Boring
timwebber-8234627 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dont get me wrong, I love this show. Season 3 was some of the best tv i have seen. So many possibilities with the ring gates. But this season seems to evolved into watching Amos and Clarissa trudge around in snow for hours end. Or the Naomi family drama. Or another shot of Draper and Alex strapped into the Razorback. Maybe a quick shot of Holden brooding on the Rocinante. Or Drummer doing..actually what exactly is Drummer doing? Avarsarala going to be leader again. The show has become too fragmented, slow and quite frankly the latest eps are just boring. Should never have split the Rocinante crew apart!

disappointing last few episodes
merpman-9440228 January 2021
I assume things will come to a head in episode 10, being the final episode of the season, so why have the last few episodes been dull rather than building up to that ? First half of this season was some of the best so far, but now its turned into some of the worst.

Excellent episode
absolutelylucid5 February 2021
I get it if people don't like episode 7 or the Naomi story-line, but leave those grievances with that episode and stop taking it out on this one. Naomi is on screen for maybe 5 minutes, if that. There's no family drama involved. The set piece that this episode is named for is awesome.

Not thrilled about the future of the show.
claytonhenry-3994027 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is the episode before the finale and things are moving at a snails pace leaving me not too hopeful for the series as a whole. This episode we have Amos and his cohorts fixing a ship for an entire episode and meeting some servants and Paul Blart the island cop. Paul didn't like that they were mean to him so he decides to shoot a bunch of people. Naomi drinks some water droplets and cries for a little. Avaserala is told she might become the president. Bottom-line I feel the pace and writing is pretty weak. I understand some people enjoy long dialogue about feelings but that's not what I got into this show for. I hope the finale redeems the show for me. Either way I'll probably keep watching it lol.
