Enjoyable
eoinpgeary21 March 2022
Definitely a better episode in the past few weeks but still not at the top, it seems to have a good balance of action and talking.

The acting in this episode for me was really good and literally everyone seemed to be pi**ed of at someone.

There was a scene that was meant to be suspenseful but because they announced the spin off show it had nothing to it, also kind of a spoiler not really, why at the end another new crazy person, it seems like they are trying to fit so much, every other time this happened after S4 or 5 the show just felt lost so I hope that doesn't happen here Good episode overall.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos28 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Daryl like most Po-Pos enjoys a good donut before punking out the Mayor's son. If that kid and Hornsby don't both die very gruesome deaths I will feel very cheated.

Its not a good idea to threaten Judith or Coco while Daryl and Rositta are armed.

Its not a good idea to accrue alot of debt when you live at the Commonwealth.

It seems way too fast for Negan to be hooked up with a new group and to have taken a new wife let alone having knocked her up already.

Secret rooms always come in handy for ambushing your enemy or a panic room.

Very strange the Commonwealth economy runs on old cash as opposed to their own monetary system. Why didn't Daryl grab the coke while he was at it? (I got the money and the yayo!)

Nice to see Mercer coming around to Daryl and Rosita's side by dropping those 2 body guards for the brat without his heart rate ever elevating.

Elijah in Ninja mode is very bad azz.

Aaron shooting Carlson without killing him so he would fall off the roof and be eaten by the same people he pushed off the roof was a nice touch.

Baby Glenn doesn't like to talk very much, but it was funny seeing him get the drop on Negan although it was a tad ironic that when the two first meet Negan smashed someone's head in with a crow bar.

Negan giving Baby Glenn a rain check on trying to kill him was honorable.

It doesn't seem like it takes as much Walker guts for them not to bother you as it use to.

Blaring home security systems for protection tend to have the exact opposite effect in the ZA.

Leah is back! She looks like she belongs with those chicks at Oceanside. Maybe she will hook them up with her cache of guns. As if TWD didn't already have enough girl power!

I hope the former Riverbend apartment residents join Maggie at Hill Top as she will need some more back up when the Storm Troopers from the Commonwealth come calling in the scene they keep teasing.

Looks like a showdown is brewing between Carol and Hornsby as to who can out BS the other, my money is on Carol.

Best Line: (Lydia) Like the Whispers they wear a mask

8.5 (The lines are now pretty much drawn)

Among the very best in the series
infinitezer020 March 2022
Combined with the previous episode, this makes for a constantly thrilling experience. It involves two main story arcs with meaningful character interactions as well as story payoffs. Never has The Walking Dead done gang warfare, espionage, or good vs evil as well as it's done here. It feels like a crafted and dynamic story in full swing that respects past events while setting up intriguing new ones.

Rise Up
tristan_1920 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Rotten Core is a solid episode and manages to conclude the Carlson arc really well, while also kickstarting the revolution, in a way.

Daryl and Rosita get to see just how idiotic Sebastian is, and how ruthless the Commonwealth soldiers can be. Mercer and Carol are tired of the nonsense and willing to act.

In the compound, Hershel confronts Negan, and it's spectacular to see the development of the latter. Maggie and Annie have meaningful dialogue. Aaron finally gets to one up Carlson, and the former CIA guy falls to his death. Finally, the Leah reveal is pretty good and accompanied well by chilling music.

Things are starting to shake up a bit, as our heroes walk closer to fighting back. The board is set and the last two episodes of 11B look promising.

FINALLY a good episode
ryan-hanna20 March 2022
I would rather a 16 episode season finale with episodes like this instead of adding useless pointless eugene episodes and fillers.

Daryl & Rosita are a great duo love them together.

Little Glenn

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was action packed and amazing from start to fishish.

We finally got the Hershel Jr and Negan dynamic and you can really see how much negan has changed since season 7 and 8.

We also got a Rosita and Daryl team up once again which was awesome. Gave season 6 vibes with when they were on the train tracks helping Denise before you know what.

I cant wait to see what 11x15 and 11x16 brings us as the final episodes of 11B.

something not quite right
arcticurse30 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The last couple of episodes have had lots of action which is great, but something just feels off. The characters we love are spread out all over the place, and going on suicide missions for little gain. I also refuse to believe any 'community' is surviving at this point in time without extensive farming/fishing - there surely cannot be anything left in the state for this apartment block of 40 people to scavenge :\

I really dislike the time skips mid-episode too. Not only is it annoying, its also left me confused as to what happened when. So Negan is now married and his wife pregnant - didn't he leave our group just a month ago??

I cant get past the fact that Daryl is seemingly completely happy being a grunt and living in a rubbish apartment. This guy who always wants to be free out in the wild. I get that he's caring for Judith but surely she could just go back to Alexandria now?

There's a nice 'Carol moment' in this episode, and a good set up for the future with Negan and a very well-fed Hershel (not that we will probably ever see this reckoning)

Action-Packed Episode
byramfurkanefe20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is definitely one of the best of TWD. Negan and Hershel's story is boring. But episode is totally amazing except it. Daryl and Rosita's adventure was amazing. Things were so fast and it made episode perfect. Leah's comeback is good. I'm glad see her. Enjoyable also important episode.9.2/10.

Not everything is killing zombies
wrka-195-29992820 March 2022
Exactly, this episode has everything you need, but the highlights are the Negan and Hershel JR scenes, its dialogues are awesome and a lot of sense, capture the essence of the conflict, Maggie and Annie are not far behind, the whole episode was very well written. The writers have allowed Negan's character to evolve this time on the right side of the road, I find Negan more interesting but still complex. I really can't wait to see how this conflict unfolds, although we all know that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will have their own spin off, I'm still stuck in this story.

The history of the commonwealth, for its part it is slow sometimes and I fear that with only 10 episodes left this will be abrupt and fast development, perhaps leaving a lot of gaps in the plot in the way.

The Rotten Core
bobcobb30128 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A bit of a shift in tone and of storytelling with this one. Finally we got an old-school Walking Dead style premise where there was a house with trinkets in and the gang struggled to get to them. Simple enough, but rang true to the premise of the series.

It was not perfect, but this is exactly the kind of episode that we need more of from the show. It also advanced a key aspect of what will now be happening in the Commonwealth and that is people finally recognizing that everything is not okay in the world. Long overdue for this to happen, but right on cue we find our heroes in a fight with a corrupt brand of dictators.

Episode OK
mjp-3873827 March 2022
Ok, I have been watching this show for YEARS. Like most people I like the weekly escape from my own life and have always found the characters relatable. Recent years the show has been doing these things that make trying to get into the show and enjoying it.

  • Trying to create TO MANY sub plots I feel like I need to start tracking them on a white board.

  • The EXCLUSIVE looks are absolutely torturous why do I spend Extra money to be tortured? I am really considering ending it just because of them, I would rather endure to COMMERCIALS than these. What does that say? They ad no value and are just to feed the show runners EGO.

  • There is WAY too many "what was the point" plots and sub plots I guess that goes with the why I feel the need to start a white board.

  • So many great performers on the show you tend to get attached to certain ones and relate to certain stories ex Negan is now married! That seems like a more interesting story than the love story Eugene, that's not I don't like Eugene it was a boring, dragged out storyline that STILL isn't going anywhere.

  • Back in earlier seasons the elements of survival and "lord of the flies" aspect of developing new politics was fascinating to watch. Some how now it's like watching a Soap Opera version CSPAN.

If the spin off shows hope for ANY type of success there needs to be much more invested in writing and story line development. I did try and watch Fear of the walking dead but I truly could not watch it for similar reasons the things I listed above.

The Rotten Core has as much quality drama and meaningful interactions as it has action, overall a brilliant episode
Holt34421 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 11.14 titled "The Rotten Core" is focused on the Commonwealth arc. The premise for episode 14 reads: Maggie, Lydia, and Elijah help Aaron and Gabriel on a rescue mission. In the chaos, Negan finds himself watching over Hershel. Sebastian coerces Daryl and Rosita into pulling a heist. I think the editing and pacing was perfect in this episode, some of the best, with some great transitions. Jim Barnes & Erik Mountain penned the script for 11.14, the overall writing was brilliant and the dialogue felt right. Overseen by Angela Kang, the writing for this episode is consistent of the previous episodes in Part 2, as it's written by the same people who wrote the previous episode it's the same quality and I would say the episode is as good. But actually even more action in this and the zombie kills looked phenomenal. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and it's visually a great episode, an overall impressive production.

Marcus Stokes directed 11.14 "The Rotten Core" and the direction was brilliant, there are so many great scenes in this episode and there's not one single bad performance throughout the entire episode. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, just right for the show, the way it was shot and so on, simply brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

As this was a direct follow-up to the previous episode which ended with suspension and with many characters in jeopardy. The best performances were Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene and Jason Butler Harner as Toby Carlson. The performance that surprised me the most were of Kien Michael Spiller as Hershel Rhee, for an child actor he truly showed his potential.

"The Rotten Core" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like. Angela Kang is truly giving the Commonwealth arc a lot of depth and I'm liking it a lot, Part 2 continues to be amazing and we're getting closer to the flashforward. This episode feels 100% like a TWD episode, not saying that the Commonwealth heavy episodes doesn't, but for the non graphic novel readers, 11.13 and 11.14 is more similar to previous seasons and for a good reason at that as it gives us viewers something fresh but also an episode that furthers the Commonwealth plot. I'm sure this is an episode many will like and if not for the acting and story the episode is telling. Negan returning after these months (in the story) made us question how he have changed and I won't spoil anything but I like where Angela Kang is taking the character. The confrontation between Negan and Herschel worked so well with me and hopefully everyone else too. I'm stoked to see more of Negan but also much more of Maggie, Lauren Cohan is continuing in giving her best performance as Maggie Rhee. The acting range on her is really high and I just feel like this darker version of the character fits the show quite well. I also want to write something about the sub-plot regarding Daryl and Rosita as they go on a heist mission for Sebastian Milton and you can easily say that this is unnecessary for the overall story, it's a reasonable argument, but let me persuade you why it makes sense in the story and the character. Sebastian is arrogant, spoiled and overall a really big douchebag. It shows us the current situation with him and there's a lot of character development between Daryl and Rosita but mostly Mercer. The events in the previous episode and this one doesn't exist in the source material, but for the show, it fits so well as it expands on the theme of corruption and overall expanding the Commonwealth arc. This was in my opinion, a perfect TWD episode.

Season 11 is getting exponentially better with each new episode
kataleja-martyr20 March 2022
Leah seems to bee on a broken heart rampage.

Most all of the viewers assumed that she is the mystery character.

But whom does she plans to kill with all those stolen weapons?

Not Daryl, that's for sure. :)

Justice Is Served
MamadNobari9720 March 2022
And Aaron is the man to serve it!

I'm glad Aaron is getting more iconic and badass scenes in this season, even though he was on the screen for a really short time, he still shined. I Always appreciate more Aaron.

I really liked this episode through and through. Every storyline was interesting and the action scenes were good and there was not a bad or unnecessary scene in here.

Justice and karma may have hit really quick, but I don't think they could've settled that issue anywhere else than the building.

Daryl and Rosita's plot was really good with some great zombie action and callbacks to earlier seasons where they have to get from point A to point B and back, through a horde of zombies. The mayor's son is still a douche and I'm really interested to see what his fate is gonna be.

Also I'm really liking Mercer with each episode, he's a real badass and not a complete bootlicker of the Commonwealth government.

Then we have our Plot A, with the people in the building and the psychopath who's murdering them one by one, and lots happen in there too. I really liked the scenes with Negan and and the kid (not gonna spoil it). I like the direction they're taking this "relationship" too, because after all these episodes, it was getting kinda overdone and needed a fresh dynamic. I'm really looking forward to see where they'll take this.

We also have Hornsby that is showing who he really is, and looks like that Carol is about do a little "season 5 Carl" here and I'm looking forward to it.

And then we have a surprise character coming back, and it was really surprising cause I really didn't expect it to be that person. I honestly forgot that person even existed and I was hoping for a more familiar face and someone we haven't seen for a long time, but I guess it had to be that person because it was obvious that the said person was gonna come back eventually.

All in all, it was a really good episode with some conclusions to the story and people it introduced last episode and also introducing new plots and dynamics.

At this point and with this pace, I'm not really sure if they're gonna finish the Commonwealth storyline in this second part of the season, and I really hate that I have to wait till August so I can watch the final part according to IMDb. Although we also thought that the Reapers would be a formidable enemy but they really got rid of them quickly at the end of this season's first part. So who knows, maybe they will conclude Commonwealth in the next two episodes. Either way, I'm really intrigued.

I'm the first to be skeptical of The Walking Dead, but this episode was really good, the best of the eleventh season. I hope the average here on IMDb to support my opinion.

This Episode Was GREAT
tomiscool1234520 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
God I love Rosita & Daryl team ups. Two badasses, getting things done as always.

Carol's conversations with Lance were great. Her smile dropping when she turned her back is classic Carol! She isn't buying any of that bullsh*t!

I LOVED the Negan/Hershel scene. We needed it. I have never been one to buy into Negan's redemption arc, but this was the first ep where I feel Negan has generally shown how regretful he is for Glenn. Seeing Hershel's anger, made him cry. We needed to see that.

Leah being back has me excited. Not because I love the character, or enjoyed the reapers (I didn't), but just because it adds a lot more angst to this already exciting storyline. Things are heating up with the Commonwealth, but adding Leah into the equation...who knows what might happen.

Governments are corrupt
MaddHatterDeplorable14 April 2022
Rotten to the core. No matter how hard they try, Governments illicit greed, corruption and rot the institutions from the inside like a cancer.

Great intentions are like ass***s --everyone has them, or believes they do.

In reality the selfish few take over the host body until it is weakened and dead.

Decent Filler Episode with an Interesting Cliffhanger
panagiotis199322 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wait does Negan have a girlfriend? Introducing more and more characters, it's frustrating. And she is pregnant? And they're engaged or something? Ms Milton's son has an insane mission for Daryl and Rosita, I cant wait for this dude to get killed, he's so annoying. I still think that we need an origin story for the Commonwealth as a whole. I hope they will do that in the future. I liked the conversation between Negan and Hershel. Negan is haunted by his past and it's wonderful. Love that we got to see walkers eating Carlson. Where is Eugene? What about Ezekiel's surgery? The cliffhanger with Leah was nice. Does this mean that the Reapers are back? She seemed to be alone so I don't think so. I don't get why this episode has such a high rating though. It was decent but nothing great. My rating is 7/10.

Another great episode, but has some confusing choices.
frankiesilver-9183626 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode doesn't hold a candle to 11x13, but it's not necessarily bad by any means. There is plenty of action coming from both plots with big emotional and shocking moments.

The lesser part of the episode was the Sebastian plot, being kinda predictable. Mercer killing the soldiers and Daryl defending the kids was absolutely bad*** though.

Meanwhile, the Carlson plot continued to be gold. I'm upset he died so soon, but his death was so greatly iconic. Great kill for Aaron!

I really didn't like the reveal that Annie is suddenly Negan's pregnant wife. I feel like that is way too sudden a reveal with a brand new character and I kinda hope she just dies. I really don't want the Isle of the Dead spin-off cast bloated... only Lydia and maybe Elijah, please.

Speaking of Lydia, I love she has reunited with Negan and her view of the soldiers.

Also, Hershel discovering who Negan is was so powerful. You can see his pain and you can really tell he knows he's irredeemable.

Finally, Leah being the big reveal was meh but makes sense; it doesn't hurt the episode quality.

The decent episodes keep on coming...
Leofwine_draca3 October 2022
So this was another good episode and it feels like the second part of a twofer with the previous one. We're still in the run-down apartment building, where the assembled good guys must battle a new and powerful foe and his squad of assassins. Good direction throughout in this sequence and even characters like Aaron and Gabriel, a bit wishy washy in the past, are given their chance to shine now. The second plot is mini mission in which Daryl and Rosita are asked to go and perform a heist - yes, I'm serious. It's more familiar but it works with the requisite suspense and excitement, the zombies remaining an ever-present threat.

Please stop with the 10/10 reviews.
hendersonandrew-6145123 March 2022
Please. It's so ridiculous. Just stop. The Walking Dead has deteriorated into an average show that most people are watching because they've committed so much time into it over the years and can't just stop so near the end. Seasons 2-5 had some 10/10 episodes, since then the episodes are average television at best. Giving it 10/10 is a joke.
