. . . Dementia, as two young urchins are forced to deal with the decline of a doddering grandparent. During WHAT'S UNDER BY BED?, Louie and Mary Ann display tons of patience toward a mentally incompetent caregiver who is constantly saying things such as "then the skeleton started climbing up the side of the house" and "that's when the bats came in." Between the little creatures parading through Grandpa's increasingly feeble brain on stilts and the cacophony of the moaning and wailing herd of ghosts pervading the ancient relic's Youth, this film illustrates the dangers of a system in which vulnerable children don't always have a nursing home on speed dial.
