Not smart enough to make you think, moving too slow to entertain
sixstringpr8 July 2022
The writers of this show don't seem to understand what show they are making. It's not smart enough to be something that makes you think, but the writers don't seem to understand that, so they abandon a great value proposition - Jeff bridges as a spy coming out of retirement kicking butt and doing spy stuff. The first episodes where good, but it's starting to slow down too much and the characters make decisions that make zero sense.

Great acting ruined by bad writing
blues99811 July 2022
I believed every minute of this show until the end of this episode. No spoilers but it's just weak writing and not believable at all. Kudos to 2 great actors for trying to make it work,

I don't like the direction this show is taking, it's getting dumber.
jabberwalkie781 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Fourth episode ending was dumb. One, it doubles down on the Zoe plot hole from earlier episodes and two, also distracts from the overall theme.

I don't like the direction this show is taking. It started out great, but it seems to be getting worse as each episode comes in.

What Did Just Happen ?
sumtim3s00n1 July 2022
I mean the show did lose a few steps since its beginnig but this last episode especially the last few minutes of the episode... they destroyed the show in 2 minutes. I think everyone watching just wanted for him to pull his gun out and take her out.

They changed the WHOLE narrative of the relationship, made it something it was not before and making it now 100% conflictive (im sure theyll forcefully turn it back into romantic) . The only thing they didnt change was him funnily, so maybe the actor wasnt even acting cause it was so absurd. FELT extremely nonsensical.

Aside from that, what is also kind of bothersome is all the cloak and dagger conversations about basic plot redline. Its like they are trying hard to not solve anything and everyone just keeps wondering what the next person wants.

Everything is so hush hush and code and need to know that consequently nobody knows anything. Nobody knows what is the reason of his majesty Farazadi or whateverishisname wishes , because it would be far too simple for him to tell what he wants exactly. No, rather playing telephone, running in circles and acting like its the Cold War despite we'll probabily eventually find out it is something J Springer-esque melodramatic, like "did she ever love me" or "his sister is her cousin" or something that will ruin the show twice over.

Sad ending to episode 4
toeycutter4 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Gosh what a great three almost four episodes of this series, I think zoe behaved reasonable with reactions of ignoring Dan and his actions until she had time to let it all sink in, I mean last episode she let a dog in to save Dan from an assasin so she knew something was not right, but being hidden in a Trunk was against her civil rights and now and she wants revenge and redemption from a man that could easily put two in her skull and throw her out the window, the FBI the CIA no one can find him and her answer is to blackmail him ...OK.

I don't understand the hate?

Warning: Spoilers
I actually really enjoyed what they did with the Zoe Character at the end of the episode, it felt like they built up to it. She's been painted as stomped on from her first moments 'my husbands owns it/he'd be mad about the eaten sofa' Why wouldn't she now, when she has literally nothing to lose, try for some attempt to be seen as something other than the failure the rest of her family sees her as?

It's complicated: more Afghanistan backstory, more insights in the present, more slow-burning suspense
Shadowboy_25cm4 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is like chess: Easy rules, but a complex game.

Each character plays his game and with each new information the tactics get some modifications:

Harold Harper gets a hint about a mole in his team. I think, he has a guess, who it might be and he makes his moves.

Angela Chase is keeping her father Dan Chase up to date. She wants to intensify her researches and stay close to Harold Harper risking to be cought.

Dan Chase has kidnapped Zoe and finds refuge in one of his hideouts and false identities. Zoe, first being the kidnapped, overwhelmed and passive victim, adapts to the situation and has some change of mind.

Dan himself gets more active and makes his moves in regard to the afghan past by reaching out to Pavlovich. Furthermore, some backstory about Dans involvement in Afghanistan.

The present Faraz Hamzad stays still in the shadow, but his demands on the US government are represented by his confidant Nina Kruger. She's also a well chess player and kkeps her cool.

This tv show is a political thriller and the suspense is further slowly increasing. Each character is on the edge and now, each move might be the last one.

Thrilling.

I find the story incredible.
oldgoat-264-7356331 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Each week the story gives us a little more. It requires paying careful attention to everything, but you learn so much. Well written. Complicated. I even like the bad guy characters. What is The Old Man hiding from his daughter? Does her boss know who she really is?

Keep it coming.

For those who are looking for an "action" show, look elsewhere. The action in this one is only a small part. It's a "brain" show. I love it.

Weakest episode so far, but it wasn't that bad
gorgeousgeorges5 July 2022
People giving 1 star saying the show was ruined in the last 60 seconds of the episode are exaggerating so much. I do agree that this episode was the weakest so far, but I am still interested. It was a minor plot twist nothing else.

Great cast and plot. Amy Brenneman character, is becoming monotonous.. it seems plots can't escape these irritating characters. Hope she is a double agent and not just a whiny pain .

Finally a little bit of excitement and interest here. The storylines feature far too many twists and turns, but I think there is potential in the show for the firt time since I've been watching.

He should have shot her.
travis-7299327 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Of course the woman who derailed her marriage for narcissistic purposes, would now try to be a "main character" in her own deluded power fantasy. I think people are are over looking how wildly out of sync with reality... people can be... great acting, good writing.

This woman, failed to make any decisions after being fully aware of the dangers present. She was given a second opportunity to leave, but didn't. Now, since she doesn't work, have any money and owes a ton of money is trying to work the situation, devoid of sympathy to get her self paid and be "accounted for." I really hope he shoots her in the face.

Not Believable.

Dan Chase is in front of every situation for the past 50 years. I have a difficult time believing a woman he met 48 hours previously is going to turn his world upside down. Poor writing.

Unbelievable
schulmange3 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Our protagonist, Dan Chase, has spent the last 20 or 30 years off the grid hiding out with his wife. When things go south, he takes up with Zoe and ultimately kidnaps her, ostensibly to protect her. They wind up in Los Angeles in a luxury high rise where he has a staff to clean and stock it and owns an investment firm whose employees have never met him.

First, it is hard to believe that "Dan Chase" would have an alternate identity and home that depends on so many people. That's hardly living off the grid. Could he have a shack in the woods of Wyoming? Yep. Why surface in L. A., especially in a building with cameras and recorded video? Why go to a restaurant in public which also may have security. L. A. Is not London, but there are plenty of cameras recording away.

Second, there is no explanation of why folks would work for a company where they have never met the boss. Moreover, when he meets with Zach to tell him to make an investment, there is no explanation as to why he needed a face-to-face meeting. Given that he told, no, ordered, Zach to make the investment, he could have delivered that message over the phone, just like he's been doing for years. He did not have to show his face in public or to Zach when he knows Harper et al are after him and might publish his photo at any minute.

Third, there was no reason to expose his Los Angeles hideout to Zoe, who might at any moment decide to leave. The Los Angeles hideout is tied to the investment firm identity, so if Zoe simply left, or somehow got picked up by the cops, the whole house of cards would fall. Moreover, a guy who spent decades living off the grid would not suddenly decide to let Zoe in as to any of his other alter egos or addresses. He didn't survive this long by being stupid.

Fourth, the plot with Harper, and where Harper is going, is nuts. No matter how desperate Harper is to avoid stuff coming to light, Hamzad's attorney could easily have delivered the question, or she could have simply said, Hamzad wants to meet with you. How about the Starbucks in downtown Kabul on Second St?

Last, Zoe's character changes her personality. A woman worried about making ends meet and getting her son's tuition paid has morphed into a master con woman who has stopped being concerned for her kid, which, if we remember correctly, has been kicked out of school.

A series with great acting is taking a story that at best will need 4 hours to tell and drawing it out to 8 or 10 hours pointlessly, by adding nonsense that runs counter to the characters created.

Off the rails in episode 4
xvngfpfht3 July 2022
As many others have noted, after 3 very good episodes, the 4th flies off the rails with an entirely unbelievable twist at the end. I am surprised that the two excellent actors could get through the ridiculous dialogue.

There is absolutely no way that anyone would act as Zoe does, and as a further plot hole, it's amazing that Dan/Henry's character would even consider it! He's already being chased by the FBI and assassins, so he's going to be worried about a woman blowing his cover!

By the way, on a lesser but significant plot hole, how did they introduce this new identity of Henry Dixon? This billionaire just happened to be living alone in the Pennsylvania woods as Dan Chase, and now assumes this alter ego with no exposition at all? He stops to get clothing for Zoe, and picks up a passport for her in a shopping center? Of course we see none of this, so it's bad writing or unbelievably poor editing. Such a shame that these great actors have to put up with this.

Series Derailed!
karthika-589842 July 2022
After a spectacular opening with initial 3 episodes being very interesting, This show got completely derailed in this 4th Episode with ridiculous conversations between Chase and Zoe. What on earth made the director think of bringing such an insane situation between Zoe and Dan Chase. Please put an end to this nonsense Zoe story line spoiling the entire show!! I want this show back as it was at end of 3rd.

The ending ruins everything
ignigenaquintus2 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As other people have commented the show was belivable till the end of this episode. If she is so scared of him, she wouldn´t put him in a position that puts his daughter and him in extraordinary great danger. She is supposedly scared of him and she gives him 3 strong incentives to kill her, not to lose half of everything he owns is the least of it.

Also she makes it completely unfaced by his anger, she suddenly is deranged. What makes it worse is that you can´t blame it to irrationality as she has been cooking it for hours, and she presents her extortion in such calm terms basically claiming she doesn´t care if her need for control kills his daughter, him and herself.

The problem for me when facing an episode like this, which it´s lacy writing because they wanted to give her more protagonism, is that either they fix it in the first 5 minutes of the next episode, or I can´t keep watching it, because I am not going to believe anything anymore, not to mention I am going to dislike a character that the writers want me to love.

Sudenly, they dropped the ball hard.

Series just took a big dip...here's why
cmyth0071 July 2022
This show started off SO STRONG. The first three episodes were fantastic, engaging, and left me wanting more. But the fourth episode had an ending that was so--off--that it may have ruined the show for me. It ruined the episode in less than 60 seconds, and I'm not even sure I'll keep watching.

The Zoe character does something at the end of the episode that literally doesn't make any sense for someone in her situation, and honestly, I wanted Jeff Bridges to just terminate her on the spot. She disgusts me.

Bad enough for me to quit the series. Warning: Spoilers
During the first three episodes, I thought the series was going to be one of the best of the year. This episode was so poorly conceived and written that I will not watch anymore.

Beyond the obvious reasons to hate this episode, I have a very difficult time believing that Chase was maintaining multiple identities so successfully that one of them is a multimillionaire, and that his successful company has just accepted the fact that no one has ever met him.

Like everyone else, I thought the ending was completely unbelievable. If Zoe was smart and ambitious enough to pull that off, she never would have found herself in the situation that she did with her ex-husband. She has been extremely unlikeable since her first scene.

While he might be morally obligated to get her out of the immediate harm that he had put her in, there is zero chance that Chase is dumb enough to involve her so deeply in his life on the run, much less make her his pretend wife!

Either he's brilliantly cunning or he's really stupid, he can't be both. But, that is precisely what's the writers are adding us to accept. I will not and do not.

Worst episode so far after a great start
aphamle2 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What did I just watch??

So an ordinary woman makes consequential demands to a professional killer?? Dan should just kill her and his problems go away, such bad logic and writing.

Another perspective... Suddenly a weak divorced woman, who cry's over lack of funds to pay for her sons education, stands strong and confronts a deadly killing machine, to demand half of his wealth???? This was so hard to watch, she should be dead...urgh.

Here we go again...
willkthewpboy2 July 2022
Another television series going downhill from writers not being able to come up with compelling female characters. I'll admit Emily is interesting, but what was the point of painting Zoe as a sympathetic character the last two episodes if you show us now that her husband may have been justified in leaving her? What an irrational way to twist this story.

I have a feeling Zoe will turn into Ozark's Wendy, another famously hated television character, who was written so terribly by writers trying to make her seem independent and infallible that it completely ruined the show's later seasons.

Naive at best
yevhenyia2 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the show so far even though it is somewhat naive (a very old CIA agent against the entire machine... sure), but it is entertaining and well-played. We cannot expect realism from a film or a TV show about the CIA or any other spy agency for obvious reasons. Until this episode, the only gap in the scenario for me was that the U. S. agencies give a rat's ass about some Afghani militant (even if he got rich and powerful). However, maybe there is some plot twist or information we do not know yet that could explain it. But Zoe... I do not understand why some creators make up such annoying female characters (I know that the actress is not guilty). Zoe is not a believable character. At first, she is a typical damsel in distress with an evil ex, a disrespectful son, and money issues (because apparently, she was unable to earn and take care of herself financially for some reason). In a second, she is this courageous woman demanding half of fortune from a professional killer for some ...um...e-mail..? It's hilarious.

So this is ruined Warning: Spoilers
First 3 episodes were great and now this. If he is who the story say he is then this is a stupid twist and if she is who the story portray her as she wouldnt do this either. In the story he is a very dangerous man who wont stop at nothing. Also, she has nothing to prove she is who she says she is, only a passport that doesnt even have her picture in it. Doing what she did, the main character would just threaten to kill her son and then torture her until she gave him the password because she is threatening his world and child and if the charcter stayed true he would stop at nothing.
