Dwayne Johnson tells his own life story as only the Rock can
Ed-Shullivan17 February 2021
I previously read some of Dwayne Johnson's Life story and this pilot episode for his new TV series is allowing him to re-tell his childhood and his rise to stardom as an athlete and movie star bar none from his early wins and losses with his own words. Dwayne Johnson grew up in a professional wrestling family and as we all know the World Wrestling Federation is where the Rock first rose to stardom and then went on to become one of the top movie stars of the past two decades. The Rock tells his own story from his humble beginnings with his father's own wresting ring feats and defeats. More to come each week the Rock assures us.

Some reviewers may scoff at the retro feel of the Rocks young adult life and his stylish clothes of the 1980-90's but for those IMDB reviewers who are far too fast in mocking the Young Rock I have just one question for you? Can you not smell what the Rock is cooking?

I give it a 9 out of 10 IMDB rating and yes, I want to see more.

Kinda funny

Just a few minutes into the episode there was a joke that got me.

The Rock's father I'd signing autographs and this woman hands him a picture to sign. He looks at the picture rather oddly and says "Is this Carl Weathers?" and just gives the woman the picture back and walks off in disgust. hahaha that was rather funny actually.

Working the Gimmick

With a framing device of Dwayne Johnson running for President in 2032. He gives a warts and all television interview recounting his early life.

This is a nostalgia fest for fans of The Rock. Part homage to sitcoms like The Wonder Years, The 70s Show and Everyone Hates Chris.

The best part of the first episode was the Young Rock as a kid. His father bringing his wrestling friends around the house such as Andre the Giant and Iron Sheik.

The young Rock is not old enough to realise that his wrestler dad is unreliable and even fooling around.

The momentum gets lost as it goes to the two older incarnations of the Rock.

In a sense this flitted about too much in varying timelines. Maybe it would had been better to age it chronologically as the Rock got older.

I guess the events portrayed or about as true as the Rock's autobiography.

Warning: Spoilers
Frumpkin24 believes that the overuse of the phrase "Working the Gimmick" raises the cheese factor of this episode by 300%.

Also, the U logo was not period. Go Canes.
