Meager handling of the topic
lor_16 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the early days of theatrical porn (c. 1970) a popular topic concerned sex cults and in particular Satanic cults. This Wicked Pictures title implies some of that surefire sensationalist content, but the movie is low-key, mild and generally underwhelming.

We have a new face as heroine, Petra Blair, whose innocence is an asset. But she, like the rest of Hank Hoffman's cast, underplays considerably, dulling down the action. By film's end one realizes that not much has happened, other than the required (and routine) five XXX scenes.

With her back-story largely delivered in voice-over we're introduced to Kacey, a farm girl seen humping her boyfriend Cody Steele. She informs us (not him) that they're breaking up and she ends up in the big city, confusingly represented by a crummy alley supposedly outside of a night club. This signals an absence of even rudimentary production values, giving the movie an unfortunately crummy look.

She meets a pretty blonde Chloe there (played by Zoey Monroe), who takes her to what looks like an abandoned warehouse, inhabited by the title cult, a motley group of porn actors led by Ryan Driller.

I expected group sex, especially considering the DVD's posed cover art showing 8 nude people (3B, 5G) poised to get it on. No such scene is included. Instead we have a voyeuristic staging of five cast members as spectators watching cult member Ramon Nomar humping Bobbi Dylan, a scene crying out for either "All I Really Want to Do" or "Can't Leave Her Behind" on the soundtrack. No such luck.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

After having sex with Driller, Kacey conveniently overhears him plotting with Chloe in a clumsy bit of dialog that reveals all: they're a pair of grifters who get their cultists to sign over all wordly goods to them, and then take off for parts unknown to fleece another group of gullibles.

Since another girl has balked at delivering the deed to her house to Ryan, we get the impression that he's ready to off her, but a plot twist turns the tables on Driller and leads to an abrupt and unsatisfying happy ending.

I've liked late-blooming porno director Hoffman's work for Wicked, but this one's a clunker.
