Run Klaus Run
Calicodreamin23 June 2022
The other shoe finally drops and the show makes a good attempt to clarify and add context. Though this seasons subplots are totally off the rails random.

Here is my problem...
songod-9500327 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Why are some of the shows characters acting like they did nothing to screw up the time line? Of course their mothers did not exist. Of course the woman's daughter is not hers. And where the heck did Diego exist to leave a kid for 12 years when he was never there? That esp makes no sense at all.

And getting a hair cut turned Vanya into Viktor?? Was it a Magic haircut?? Ellen Page was the only star this show had - so I suppose recasting when she became he was out of the question - and maybe the creators are hoping for some LGBTQ+ awards come awards season?? (I would have at least thought some kind of whopping transformation would have turned Vanya into Viktor but, no, a haircut.)

Compare to "Doom Patrol". I recall all the characters and what each one can do. These folks?? Barely. Luthor? No idea. Character missing kid? No idea. Vanya was the most interesting one of the gang and now?? An advertisement.

Its like they are brain dead and cannot comprehend the difference made when they went back, changed the past, and now are in a NEW TIME LINE.

Seems the new writers, too, are brain dead.

This makes no sense?
leenu_lp30 June 2022
I have no idea why people are complaining about Vanya/Viktor, who cares?

The terrible thing in this episode was them not understanding how different timelines work (really, you're gonna go look for your child in a place where even if you exist there are 0 chances you'll be with the same man and have the same child) plus the whole fight scene in the pharmacy. Some punches and throwing of things affected those who threw them, other times they didn't. Why? How? What's the logic? It's getting crazy and not in a good way.

The transition was flawless.
saenabyte23 June 2022
I am so impressed by how they did right for Elliot Page. That transition was respectful and truly helped represent Elliot as Viktor properly without making a deal of it. Netflix and the script writers for the show are doing it sooo right. I cannot express how happy I am that this show is what it is.

What's going on with the cameras?
pjbridges_2829 June 2022
I noticed that in almost every episode there is one camera that has a Vignette going on. At first it was fine but starts to get annoying. Especially in daylight scenes where there shouldn't be a vignette.

It's like they messed up lenses. Am I the only one seeing this?

You are all focused on the wrong things
kadenkgcampbell27 June 2022
Why is everyone's review about one specific thing? 80% of the reviews are all biased and focused on about 5 mins of screenplay involving "Viktor". You all know the episode was 55+ mins right? Other things happened. LOL some people just confuse me sometimes.

ANYWAYS, the dead mothers and grandfather paradox storylines were sooo interesting and amazing. Diego's son is awesome. This show is still as great as it was Season 1.

Let's not be biased and distracted or obsessed with such a small part of the show. The show is great regardless of how you feel about that one part. Deep down you all know it.

[5.7] Love-eating ravens

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2: As bad as the first episode, maybe even worse. The storyline plots are a complete mess, uninteresting and not enthralling at all.

Did the writers change? Most surely. That is not the Umbrella Academy that I watched in seasons 1 and 2. Everything is subpar and likely written for teens.

It is so unfortunate and bad that it isn't even worth discussing who did what.

Absolutely beautiful
kaf-3992823 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was pretty sure that Viktor's transition would be handled well, but this went well beyond my expectations. As a trans person, I felt so well represented. I also like that it is acknowledged, but not taking away from the main plot.

To all the transphobic reviews...
c1ara23 June 2022
I don't normally write reviews about single episodes, only about the full series, but I just have to respond to all the transphobic reviews.

When I heard that Elliot would be playing Viktor, I was so excited! I was happy that he doesn't have to play something he's not comfortable with. I was just scared for how they would include this in the story. I have to agree that they didn't do a very good job, but it was definitely not horrible! At first I just thought that it was kinda random because it all happened so sudden and it seemed like no one really cared, but when I thought about it more I didn't think it was so bad. I actually like how they didn't make it too big of a deal, because that's not what the series is about. It was still a cute moment and I love how they didn't just stop talking about it in the next episodes.

For this part I agree, Viktor's transition wasn't very well included in the story, but that is absolutely no reason for transphobia! This has nothing to do with being 'woke', it's just because of the writing. It doesn't really make a difference in the story, because Vanya has never been very girly anyway. It doesn't effect the season at all!

Sort of a mess
pauli_gomez31 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was quite messy. The Umbrella seem not to get how time travel could work. I mean, they understood that their dad adopted other children and made a different academy, but they do not understand that it was crazy to expect Allison child and husband remember her at all.

But there were things I like. The mystery about their mothers (so, why is Ben born? Perhaps because the father was unaware of his existence as an Umbrella member). Klaus and Five road trip (before they reach the Amish). And Vanya transition, even when I would have liked him to keep the name, I think Vanya works for men. I liked that it was uncomplicated (or course, I imagine that is not how it works in real life, but this is a fiction show, and I think narratively it was a good choice not to spend much time in that).

I need to keep watching but I am not that motivated.

Our viewers (and lead characters) are not smart, so we have to explain them what a time paradox is.
lawina-3698925 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, here's one viewer who didn't hate this episode, because of transphobia or whatever else people go crazy about these days.

My review title is what this episode boiled down to, but anyone with a functioning brain already knew that, so why do they have to explain it? And how smart are the lead characters if they didn't realize this already, after all that happened.

I just love how everything starts to get out of hands
It's super exciting how everything starts to go wrong, five starts to figure out what is going on, and poor guy, he can't never have a day off. I like the Sloane-Luther thing, it adds drama to the plot. I think they handled well Vanya/Viktor change.

When you want to keep watching, when you need to watch the next episode asap, then you can say the episode was great.

Why all that fuss about one little thing??
Yvie8129 June 2022
I really don't get why people are making such a big deal about this episode with Vanya transforming into Viktor. We all knew she became a he long before this season aired, so what did you expect? For him to play a girl the rest of the season?? Or for Vanya to just be Viktor from episode 1 and just not mentioning the transition at all?? Or for Elliot to be written out of the series just because he decided to change and some random snowflakes can't deal with that?? I mean with the obvious wig (terribly made btw) and the voice and facial features already being very boyish, him having to play a girl in the first episode personally gave me cringy feelings. I think they dealt with it well though. They dealt with the transition and pointed it out, without giving it too much attention for it to take away from the rest of the story. This has nothing to do with 'woke messaging', the fact that people perceive it that way says more about them than about the series writers really. The writers just had to deal with a change that needed to be dealt with to keep Elloit in this series. If that's really such an issue for you, then why are you still watching? You knew it was about to happen! 🤷‍♀️ My reason for giving this episode 'only' a 7 is because I felt most of it wasn't really going anywhere. The storylines felt a little random. As if the writers created something (a new 'supergroup') and now were at a point where they didn't really know where to go next with their storytelling.

What happened to the Season 2 writers?
HyruleanTaterz23 June 2022
I binged the entirety of season 3 and it was so bad. For me, it's not a political thing at all. What happened to the show's good writers? There were only a handful of funny jokes, and there were no cool choreographed scenes like in previous seasons. The story idea had potential, but the execution of it was just a mess. I had to press fast-forward for most of season 3 because there was so much unnecessary, cringey dialogue. After the uncomfortable Luther/Allison drama in season 1, both characters became very likable in season 2. But for some reason, they resurrected annoying, whiney, dramatic Allison again. There were no consequences for bad behavior: "Oh you killed so-n-so?" or "Oh you sexually assaulted me? Sure, I'm mad but we'll just move past that like it never happened." The ending also left more questions than answers. It killed my desire to see a season 4.

Still good
junopazcaulfield23 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For the time being, some aspects of the show ( specially subplots ) do feel all inconsistent, some of the characters aren't as talented or strong in some moments as they used to be, and for some reason, they end up always having the upper hand logic wise, but then failing to beat enemies that are weaker and pretty much beatable ( Diego beating up two of the Sparrows ! ) so it ends up being extremely confusing at times, I understand that they need episodes to happen, so it might need a certain length, but I am sure they could have done something more organized, it is not bad, in fact, it is good indeed, the universe building makes the clumsyness and the huge amount of random and devoit of logic info somehow pretty believable, the action scenes are very good in this one and a few plot points are very very cool, great building up.

Just Plodding Along
Hitchcoc25 September 2023
There's no explanation why that ball of fire sends ripples out that kill animals. That's one thing. The rest involves Klaus going to find his birth mother--out of the blue. We have Vanya transitioning. Why does it matter. It's a distraction. Anyway, Luther spending all that time with the Sparrows seems superfluous. Basically, though, it's slow moving and doesn't really accelerate the plot much. Is there another goal here other than to continue to survive in a world where you've been replaced. Allison's daughter has disappeared, probably the result of some time glitch in their transfwreing from 1963. Anyway, I wanted this to be over.

Viktor
maaafz24 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show continues to be incredible and I loved every part in the episode. Seeing some comments, I don't think it is right to talk about the path that leads to transition when you don't know what it is like.

And the show was political way back from season two when Alison is standing up for her rights. You're all just transphobic who can't let people live free.

Viktor didn't change the character or the show or anything!

For me the series is a masterpiece.

Looking in the Mirror - In Elliot's Own Words
LegallyBlond9925 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I believe that everyone knew that Elliot's transition would be handled in some way this season. The way it was handled was beautiful and authentic. I read Elliot's interview with Oprah and remembered how he spoke of finally looking at himself in the mirror, post-transition, and seeing himself. These were his own words, not something written for him.

For those who didn't want to hear it, it was just one minute out of the show; get over it.

Isn't this world filled with enough ignorance, selfishness and just plain evil?! These reviews are supposed to be about The Umbrella Academy. Let's keep our personal opinions at the door. Or don't post your reviews. It's as simple as that.

Feels like filler episode
mr-altex25 June 2022
After good start, this feels like a filler more than anything.

Considering the most memorable scenes were with Luther and Sloane, I find it to be odd considering my taste where I could just take what every Number Five did and put it on a pedestal.

And I don't get the renaming Vanya x Victor. I thought Vanya is actually man's name. So, why change it. It's just strange.

Really
worshipnut-318969 September 2023
I like how all the negative reviews about the person on the show that needs psychiatric help have been removed. People say why us it a big deal then freak out and silence anyone who objects to the harm done to her in real life. It's sickening.

The show has always had poor writing but it seems to have become even worse aside from the controversy. It's just really not a very good show. It always trys to be edgy and have dark humor but the continuity is awful and it only attacks an audience that are fully invested, no questions asked. You can see how the ratings weren't great to start off with, went up when people became invested while binging them started to decline with the beginning of season 3. It just seems there is very little good entertainment out there these days.
