War

Warning: Spoilers
Another good episode, and one fittingly that gives Bobby Ball a bit more to do.

With some nice exchanges and jokes, this was a nice way to wrap up what has been a bit of a mixed bag series.

Didn't they have three kids though? Unless one was at a sleepover they left one behind.

Where was Benji

Warning: Spoilers
Benji was supposed to be in the house, but we never even saw him.

We know his presence was existent because Molly was told to wake up her brotherS, implying Benji must have been their. Maybe he wasn't available for recording.

War

The final episode of Series 11 and we see some of the kids for the first time.

I really thought that the next time we see the kids, they would be old enough to leave home.

The family are going to Normandy to pay respects to Wendy's uncle who died on the beach landings during world war 2.

Things are not running to schedule much to Geoffrey's annoyance.

While going through the passports, Lucy discovers that her mother is much older than she has let on. It also means that her dad was not her real father as he never escaped from Colditz.

Frank meanwhile tells Lee that his real grandfather did fight in the war but not necessarily for the winning side.

Although the setting is the family getting ready to go to the airport on a minibus. It was very well realised with a sharp script that packed a lot of laughs.

Geoffrey stole his scenes when he complained about his experiences with Wendy's father.

Alas this will be the last appearance of Bobby Ball. There was a post credit compilation as a tribute.

Another great episode!

Along with old acquaintance, this is by far the best episode in the series. This felt like another episode that experimented with the comedy genre (like the Halloween special and camping etc) and was really quite heart-warming while still remaining very funny. Unlike "Pub Quiz" there were no over the top characatures and was a really great episode. A real tribute to Bobby Ball.

A fitting send off for the wonderful Bobby Ball.
Sleepin_Dragon9 February 2021
The whole family are planning on a trip to France, to pay their respects to relatives that died in The Second World War.

What a truly clever, and layered piece of writing this was. I don't think anyone is going to stand and argue that this was one of the funniest episodes, it wasn't, but the cleverness of the plot was terrific.

The one thing you will note, is the acting, they are all on point here, Deborah Grant in particular, who has been superb the whole way through, particularly on this latest series.

Best of all, was the tremendous way the show said goodbye to Bobby Ball, what a legend of a man, one who will be much missed by all.

Great episode. 9/10.

Single location, simple and great story-telling

Personally, I like it when the cast perform like on a stage, focused on character dynamics, writing and acting. My favourite type of sitcom.

Good episode & nice tribute to Bobby Ball
stevecagneyfan6 October 2022
This is a nice enjoyable episode about family going to pay respects to soldiers who died at Normandy.

The episode is well played, and a lot of home truths are announced.

At the end of the episode, a nice tribute to Bobby Ball, who played Lee's father, who died in 2020.

We were shown of some of Bobby's previous scenes and music in the background was theme of Cannon and Ball "Together we'll be OK".

In a previous episode, Bobby Ball pulled on his famous red braces (seen many times in Cannon and Ball programmes).

Although I'm not a great fan of Bobby Ball, I still enjoyed seeing this tribute to him.

Lost potential
tcecoleshaw8 February 2021
This episode seemed to drag needlessly. It had the potential to explore quite a pertinent and sensitive topic. Unfortunately Lee Mack's writing got in the way with his typically forced upon jokes and a ridiculous stereotypes that ruined the main theme.

Needs a new script writer...
bronco_tim24 August 2021
Yet another episode (think Resolutions episode) where the family just sit around or stand around in this episode having arguments or finding new revelations about each other. In this one Lee Mack hardly plays a roll at all other than to drink a 2 litre bottle of milk. Gone are the quick fire quips and somewhat of a story line as per in the days of Tim, Lee, Lucy and Daisy. As for the children they're just annoying...

Another BBC programme which has run it's course but what other sit-coms do they have to turn to?
