The CBI investigate the murder of a protected witness
Tweekums16 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When a man's body is found in a remote location with a bullet in the head the CBI are called in. Jane theorises that he worked at a games arcade in the next upriver town. They head there and Jane was right. They soon learn something else; he was previously Eddie Russo, in the witness protection programme after testifying against the mob. He was responsible for ensuring that Santino 'Sonny' Battaglia's sons received life sentences. As Sonny has retired to California he is an obvious suspect so Jane ignores instructions and goes to see him. Sonny isn't the only suspect though; Eddie had been dealing drugs and his partner in that enterprise wasn't happy when he and Eddie were arrested together only he was charged... the police arrest report changed to remove any reference to Eddie. Did whoever had the report changed sell Eddie to the mob or is there somebody else who wanted him dead?

Once again 'The Mentalist' delivers the goods. It might not be realistic but it is lots of fun. There is a good mystery with plenty of suspects each with different motives and the identity of the killer isn't too obvious. Simon Baker is on great form as Patrick Jane; the scenes between him and Dan Lauria's 'Sonny' were hilarious. Having the main agency, the CBI, confronting agents of another agency, in this case the US Marshalls, may have been a little cliché but that didn't detract from the story. The ending does involve Jane using methods that would probably get the case thrown out of court but in a more light-hearted series such as this such things don't matter too much if they are entertaining and this certainly was. Overall another great episode.

The Mobster
claudio_carvalho3 December 2021
When a man is found dead with a shot in his forehead, Lisbon and Patrick conclude his body has been thrown in the river is a nearby town. Further, they also discover he worked in an arcade. The CBI team head to Sierra Vista and learn that he is Ed Diedricksen, the manager of the local arcade, and he used to sell drugs to teenagers. Their further investigation that he was an ex-mobster in the witness protection program with his wife under the protection of two specific US Marshall and he was a womanizer. The prime suspect becomes the mob boss Sonny Battaglia, and Patrick meets him at a golf-club and concludes he did not know that Ed was murdered. Who might be the killer?

"Red Sauce" is another funny episode of "The Mentalist". The plot has many twists, but the is silly in many moments including the conclusion. My vote is seven.

Federal Marshals act like total novices
damemakedonski26 December 2011
Oh my God, this is really a bad script. CBI agents meet for the first time US fed marshals in the house of a formal mobster that was under their witness protection, and then in the next 5 minutes like a total amateurs and novices they tell all the information about the protected family to CBI agents. "Are you a cop?" - "NO", "Are you alone?" - "YES". "Shoot him!" - One of the big fat mafiosos pull out a gun, but do not pull the trigger. And then a chip chat about favorite song, improving a golf performance of the mafia boss, and the song "Santa Lucia". In 5 minutes mafioso becomes a golf expert thanks to Patrick Jane teaching, they become first friends and give him a mobile number. UNREAL! UNREAL! UNREAL! NAIVE!
