Strong finish to solid series
lotekguy-115 December 2021
The first two seasons were just good enough to motivate me to refresh my memory and dive in for the third. What I found was a compelling one-day binge that kept tightening its grip on my attention span as I proceeded. I can't say that I'm pleased by every plot decision along the way, but when the dust settled, there was a laudable balance of bitter and sweet, with admirable resistance to typical studio pressures for happy, tidy packages with pretty bows in the final fade. Like any contemporary action flick or series, there are dubious moments (like so many bullets flying from so many weapons in highly-trained hands doing so little damage), but those improbable scenes are essential to moving the plot along without losing principals prematurely. Best of all, they actually packed six tight episodes worth of story into SIX episodes, rather than stretching the material over eight, as too many other productions have done. Thanks for saving us from the usual 2-4 hours of buzzkill filler that waters down the impact of most series' seasons.

Great episode, season--major mistake

Warning: Spoilers
As Hanna is saving Abas? Her friend for the nth time, she jumps down on the hit men kills them, then slowly throws her empty pistol aside, leaving herself unarmed. This is just ludicrous to think this trained person, 'fighting her whole life' who has shot many many people, would, when knowing an army is after her not pick up an assault rifle and pistol/ammo off one of the mercenary dude's bodies, even taking two to give even a pistol to her buddy. BUT that wouldn't follow the plot line where Sandy and her roll around and fight.

Also the running through the woods and guys see their target they just stand there. Call on the radio that they see him, and let him run away? Then with their machine guns they completely miss him?? That's completely unbelievable as well, just a silly storyline for that scene. These guys could gain accuracy by training with StormTroopers! Overall great episode, season, show otherwise.

Good to binge, don't expect great writing though.

Warning: Spoilers
Esme, the lead actress, is a perfect choice for Hanna, and she keeps the show interesting. The writing can be super cheesy with a lot of 'plot armor' issues, amateur decisions made by so-called 'pros', and a one-dimensional antagonist we don't care for or sympathize with at all.

The fact the bad guy happens to be Marissa's father is a contrived writing choice and a somewhat cliche move in my opinion.

The whole idea of yet another CIA secret division is getting old. Spending so many resources and causing so many deaths for capturing a dude and his kid is completely unrealistic.

Luckily most of the actors are convincing and there are enough reasons to binge through the show. With Hanna being the main reason, showing a wide range of emotions and a strong feminine representation of a conflicted killer and lover.

Best season yet
djohnson-971436 December 2021
I thought this the third series was the best yet - and was almost as good as the original film itself.

The acting was superb from all the cast, and the tension was sustained throughout.

Girl Power

One of the best shows I've binged on in quite some time. If you suspend critical thinking like the ol' 2 wire car hotwire, sidearms holding 30 bullets in a standard magazine and a few other flaws and just allow the story to entertain, You'll be entertained.

Season Three Review
southdavid21 December 2022
It's taken me a while to get around to season three of "Hanna", around a year in fact since this final season arrived on Amazon Prime. It's through no fault of the show though, as I've enjoyed the previous two runs. This too, was a worthy season and rounds out a series that was much better than I thought it might be.

With Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles) returned to the Meadows and under the guidance of newly turned Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney), the young assassins are given their first missions. Hanna endeavours to save her target Abbas Naziri (Adam Bessa) and his young daughter. Marissa (Mireille Enos) discovers to her horror the identity of The Chairman (Ray Liotta) and must decide how far her commitment to her mission truly goes.

This third season is two episodes shorter than the previous ones and fortunately were written as an ending to the story - or at least to the Meadows aspect of the story, there are other plot strands that could be picked up on, if they ever decide to revisit it. That ending is mostly satisfying, even if Ray Liotta is rather parachuted into the last few episodes as a new "big bad", though it is perhaps a bit of a contrivance when it's revealed who he is. Nice to see Liotta though, in what would prove to be one of his final few roles. All the performances are good, with Enos particularly impressing in these final shows.

Again, the shows strength is probably it's simplicity. I never felt confused as to the goals any of the characters have or what they're trying to achieve.

It surprisingly rare to see a series as consistent as "Hanna" with a true beginning, middle and end.

This was a decent series finale, but...
LegendaryFang5611 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There were a few things that seemed iffy:

The fact that Marissa and Hanna immediately trusted Terri.

  • I guess Hanna would've recognized her from when she was in The Meadows and because of the whole "texting the trainees their orders as the mother/father" thing. She would also know Terri's on their side by how she helped in three instances:

When she texted Hanna about Sandy; and how she's back to her tricks in the premiere.

Warning Hanna that Pioneer knows about her and Marissa in the second episode.

When asked by Hanna for Sandy's location at the end of the third episode, she told Hanna.

  • As for Marissa, because of what Charmichael texted her in the second episode, she knows someone in Pioneer could be on their side. But, come on. She wouldn't have known it was Terri, let alone that the person who showed up in front of them was Terri.

Then again, as far as the latter is concerned, Marissa knew her name; she said it in the car with her. As much as I seem to jump to the assumption of plot convenience, they may have met in the second season. But I don't remember at all.

No matter how you spin it, Hanna and Marissa, trusting Terri immediately: was stretching it a little too much. At the very least, there should have been some hesitancy involved.

The Chairman, going out in the field himself. Of course, we all know why, writing-wise. But that was still iffy.

Terri, being the one to bring the message to Ethan. For all Marissa knew, Terri could've been playing her. That was a dumb move, but we know the reasoning behind it, writing-wise. Still iffy.

Sandy's death.

  • I don't get why the writers had her killed. It's like they hinted at this rivalry between her and Hanna at the start of the season, making you think that they'll face off and it'll end in her death. That happened two times, yet she survived the first one, making you think she'll end up dying in the next one. Which she did, but Hanna didn't do it.

  • There was the slow build of Sandy's mental and emotional state from killing Anne, reaching the point of hallucinating her. The writers made a point of showing all of that, yet it's like none of it mattered. If it did, Sandy wouldn't have raised her gun.

  • So, either my theory is correct: that Sandy wanted to die so she wouldn't have to live with the haunting guilt of killing Anne and her unborn child, or the writers killed her for no reason, besides maybe wanting all three "bad guys" (her, The Chairman, and Brianna) to be dead.

And lastly, the reason for Marissa's death. It seems like the best writing for how Marissa will get shot that the writers came up with was for her to be dumb and try picking up the radio. I guess shooting The Chairman first and then picking up the radio was too much to ask: huh, Marissa? Embarrassing.

But, as expected: this series finale was bittersweet. For me, there were two or three reasons for that:

Marissa's death. I'm not sure if it was predictable for other people. But I was expecting it to happen. There were feelings of death flags for her throughout the season. And the title of this final episode also gave off the impression that she'll die, or someone will.

  • Her death was bittersweet. I thought she was one of the top characters in this show. Especially in this final season, alongside John Charmichael. And while I think her death, as bittersweet as it was, added more to this series finale than it would've had without it, I'm also disappointed. Just like I was with Charmichael's death. But it is what it is.

The ending. Yeah, it was a "happy ending," so to speak. Hanna, Abbas, and Nadiya were all fine. None of them died. But the fact that Hanna left by herself, and wasn't able to be together with Abbas, at least for a certain amount of time, was bittersweet.

And the third reason wasn't as prominent as the first two, but I'll include it anyway: Sandy's death. Most people probably ended up hating her in this season if they didn't already and likely glad that she "got her comeuppance."

  • I thought she was more likable in the second season. And I thought Jules was a little dislikable. In my review of this season's premiere, I entertained the possibility that those roles will switch in this final season because I thought Jules was more likable, while Sandy was a little dislikable.

  • And it did, somewhat, so I can understand why people may have begun hating Sandy and wanting her to die. But while I didn't like her in this season as much as I did in the second season, and she got on my nerves a little bit, her death was bittersweet.

I find it interesting how this series finale, as the season finale of the second season, was the most decent episode of the entire season. In this case, I think it's even better because this is the series finale and not the season finale.

Even though there were things that I thought were a little iffy or was disappointed by, this series finale was a decent end to the show. As much as I thought this show was underwhelming and not as good as it could've been, as well as being sarcastic about certain things that were convenient or ridiculous, I'll miss this show. It was entertaining enough.

[6.5] Hanna the compassionate and dog tamer
cjonesas9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A weak emotional finale to a weak season. Abb. Was already unbearable in episode 1, let alone having him for 6 episodes with fillers after fillers of him and "ma puce" in the picture, while mighty Marissa gets hit trying to protect all of them.

Nothing went smooth and well in this season and who paid the price?! The viewers as always.

Hope to see Esme Creed-Miles in a much serious spin-off of the series in the near future. She so deserves that.

Why? I will never understand.
madyson992 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They introduce a character who turns out being absolutely pointless. Every show does not need a romance plot. This was one of them. It was completely rushed and just didn't make any sense. We are supposed to believe that they have a deep feeling for each other within a day of meeting one another?

Throughout the season, it is giving you a possibility as to what is to come for Hanna when she can finally be free. It seems to be setting the tone that she will live happily with this random Abbas character even if Marissa ended up not making it. I would've hated this ending, but at least it would've made more sense than what actually happened.

In the finale, Hanna goes to Abbas to protect him, and Marissa goes to Hanna to protect her. Of course, as predicted, Marissa dies. The logical ending that I mentioned above does not happen. Instead, Marissa dies and Hanna separates from Abbas to go live out her life elsewhere. My question is WHY WAS HE ADDED?

If Hanna was never going to end up with Abbas, why on earth did we waste so much screen time on him? Like I said earlier, I would've also hated an ending with him and her being together, but at least there would've been a purpose to this character. To make things worse, Marissa would've never died had Hanna not been there to protect him. So why was he added? What did he do other than being the reason Marissa died?

It's really disappointing when a show you enjoy ends terribly. I will never understand. Okay, rant over.

Cheesy and kinda sad. This show started off SO well in season 1!
brandoman472 December 2021
"Send me a "KILL TEAM" to bravo 3 sector NOW!!"

"Okay, clear that request .. we're a good 20 Mike's out from kill team 2. Roger that over bro!"

That's the best you can do? Started out so well in season 1.

Also half these episodes are literally pictures spliced into a movie. You can literally watch it stop and start every 1 to 3 seconds with the next frame. It's not fluid in any way. You can see how stiff their acting is this season.

And I understand the virus is ruining everything good these days but this is a straight up cop out! You can't find but a couple of frames with 2+ main characters together at the same time & same scene! It's a little deceptive trick they use to make it appear 2 ppl are really together acting at the same time. Almost like a burst shot video. NON STOP. Episode 5 the worst.

And there are errors everywhere! Audio, video, editing.. and trying to make everyone look perfect with these ridiculous over the top hairdos and clothes and flamboyance styles. It's just so obvious it's an act so unbelievable.

It's almost like everyone was forced to do this season and were held against their will! Sad. And extremely low effort this season!

Well, at least season one was good.
hcasale-6830327 December 2021
Season one was good, and very interesting. Season two, not at all. It almost morphed into a teenage girl boarding school drama. Here's hoping season three gets back to what the series once was. Action and suspense, with superhero Hanna.
