Reagan Humphries got a raw deal when as a youngster she was nearly crippled in an auto accident. But due to the Happy Feet Alliance, a devoted mom, and a strong rehab program, Reagan made a commendable comeback. Now in high school, she is locked into a dance competition that may earn her a scholarship, as well as a large internet following.
Of course, Reagan's aspirations for winning the competition are complicated with what appears to be a nasty rival: Samantha B. Along with Samantha, her oily boy friend Chaz and her bestie Mona figure in thwarting Reagan's hopes and dreams.
A major shortcoming of the film was the absence of creative choreography in the dance routines. Not only were the brief clips lacking in a skill set, but the dancing was downright uninspiring! What happened to the "happy feet"?
While the mystery part of the film did not include much suspense, there was a heartfelt relationship between Reagan and her caring mother, Beth. The friendship of Reagan and Lina was also well-developed and served as a good contrast to the strained relationship between Mona and Samantha B.
One of the best parts of the film was the overarching theme of filming mundane scenes with phones. In one instance, the filming of one of Reagan's dances captured something untoward. It was that inadvertent filming sequence that was at the heart of the mystery of the deadly dance competition.
